Summary

Clinical support and practice Provide a timely response to any areas of concern, with regards to life support training/skills/knowledge gaps Whilst on duty, attend where possible, any medical emergency/ resuscitation events and help facilitate a hot debrief following the event, the both members of the responding team and family as appropriate. Work closely with the Head of Deteriorating Patient Pathways and Resuscitation Training officer to provide post-incident support (cold debrief) to our clinical staff members, as such events can be challenging, stressful and distressing, whilst ensuring the staff have access to psychological support and clinical supervision. Leads the team under supervision of the Head of Deteriorating Patient Pathways and Resuscitation training Officer to ensure best evidenced based practice and patient outcome. Raise the profile of resuscitation issues amongst all staff caring for patients within the Trust. Provide professional complex advice and support in relation to any aspect of resuscitation training, practice and procedures. This knowledge and subsequent advice/response to a medical emergency, is gained via the enhanced Resuscitation Council UK specific training and other applicable deteriorating patient and resuscitation training i.e. Royal College of Physicians NEWS2 or Sepsis. Take an active role in NEWS2 training and can act as a point of contact, for complex patient focused questions, relating to the deteriorating patient with identifying and assessing solutions. This will involve communication with the Ward based Lead Nurse and allocated Doctor, analysis of the patients presenting condition and physical observations and suggested treatment regime and escalation pathway i.e. Sepsis 6 care bundle, treatment of asthma, advice in relation to hypo/hyper glycaemia and potential admission to an acute Trust, via the Ambulance Service. Provides highly specialised clinical expertise in the area of resuscitation The resuscitation officer will provide professional advice as needed in conjunction with the resuscitation team Attend Team away days to offer facilitated refresher sessions Be an active member of the Trusts Resuscitation and Deteriorating Patient Group. To maintain and develop links internally, within clinical networks and nationally which, enhance the delivery of resuscitation practice. Contribute to the implementation of the Trusts quality and safety strategy, in addition to the physical health framework and any relevant National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, UK Sepsis Trust or Resuscitation Council UK guidance. To represent the resuscitation service locally and nationally as required. Research and audit Collect and collate data for Trust-wide and national audits relating to resuscitation and be involved with the undertaking of research projects as the service provision allows. Assist with the implementation of appropriate audit tools and data entry for all resuscitation attempts and Resuscitation Plans (DNACPR) for the purpose of measuring adherence to all resuscitation policies within the Trust. Assist with analysis audit projects and audit reports for the Resuscitation Committee and other relevant stakeholders and assist with developing action plans that sustain a dynamic quality improvement programme. Assist in developing Trust policies and competencies in all relevant resuscitation procedures. Assist in incident investigation when required. To be an integral part of Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust senior structure providing strategic leadership on key clinical issues. Participate in quality improvement projects relating to acute illness management and the deteriorating patient. Responsibilities for People or Training Assist in the planning, development, delivery, evaluation and recording of all training provided by the Resuscitation Department and assess levels of competence during and following teaching including in house Resuscitation Council UK Immediate Life Support and Paediatric Basic Life Support training. Provide line management to Resuscitation Team Administrator. Maintain current professional registration with the NMC or equivalent and comply with the standards set by them. Ensure own compliance with mandatory training and clinical competencies relevant to this post. To assist in the maintenance of training records and databases as needed by the service. Ensure that the appropriate and efficient use of supplies is made and exercise economy in the use of consumables. To ensure that the training manikins are cleaned and maintained according to Trust Policy. To actively participate in giving and receiving peer review of teaching skills and abilities as part of on-going professional development. To ensure that all staff are aware of changes in evidence base practice related to resuscitation as disseminated from the Resuscitation Council (UK). Help with income generation by providing training, where appropriate, for external partners. Clinical governance To ensure timely reporting of incidents as per Trust policy. Report any resuscitation equipment deficits/issues and ensure that appropriate action has taken place. Ensure all resuscitation equipment in each area is checked on a regular basis, appraised, audited and risk assessed. Identify areas of concern and discuss with the Head of Deteriorating Patient Pathways and Resuscitation Training Officer. Assist in quality improvement processes relating to resuscitation service.
