Summary

Purpose Financial Planning is an independent financial planning firm in Edinburgh, working with clients across the UK. We help individuals, families and business owners organise their money around the lives they actually want - retirement and pension planning, investments, protection, and estate and inheritance tax planning. We also do corporate work: workplace pension schemes, salary sacrifice arrangements, and financial planning clinics for employers who want their staff to get proper advice rather than a leaflet. The firm is led by Andy Reynolds, Chartered Financial Planner and Fellow of the Personal Finance Society.

We're deliberately small and advice-led: no in-house products, no sales targets, no restricted panel. Independent means independent.

The role

This is the first hire of its kind, so you'll shape it. You'll take the administration off the adviser's desk and, over time, take on as much of the technical work as you want to.

Day to day:

Preparing client meeting packs, valuations and documentation

Keeping the CRM and client records accurate and up to date

Processing new business, applications, transfers and policy amendments on platforms such as Fundment and Transact

Chasing providers for information - pension schemes are slow, and part of this job is being politely relentless

Supporting compliance: file checks, record-keeping and audit trails

Handling client enquiries by phone and email, professionally and promptly

Gathering and organising data ahead of advice being given

As you develop, that broadens into cash flow modelling, research, and drafting suitability reports - the paraplanning work.

Where this goes

If you want to progress, we'll back you properly:

Exams fully funded (first attempt only, resit costs met by the candidate). R0 series through to Diploma, and on to Chartered if that's your ambition. Study support, not just the invoice paid.

Route to Paraplanner, and to Adviser after that if that's what you want. In a small firm you can see the whole client journey from first meeting to implementation to annual review, which is how people actually learn this job.

Direct, daily mentoring from a Chartered Financial Planner. No layers between you and the technical work.

Equally, if you want to be an excellent administrator and stay there - that's a genuinely valuable career and we'll pay for it accordingly. No pressure either way.

Flexibility

We're small, so we can be sensible about this:

Full-time or part-time - tell us what works and we'll look at it seriously

Roughly 50% in the Edinburgh office, 50% wherever suits you

Flexible hours around school runs, appointments and real life

Compressed weeks, term-time patterns, staggered start times - all discussable

We care about the work being done well, not about where you were sitting when you did it.

What we're looking for

Financial services experience is welcome but not essential. What matters:

Genuinely organised, with the attention to detail that regulated work demands

Clear, confident written and verbal communication; you'll be speaking directly to clients

Comfortable with numbers and able to spot when something doesn't look right

Competent with Microsoft 365, particularly Excel and Word; quick to pick up new systems

Able to prioritise and see things through without being chased

Useful if you have it: prior financial planning, wealth management, mortgage or paraplanning experience; existing CII/CISI qualifications or progress towards them; experience with adviser platforms or CRM systems.

Package

£26k - £30k dependent on experience

Discretionary bonus scheme

All professional exams and membership funded

25 days holiday plus bank holidays

5% employer pension contribution.

Practicalities

This is an FCA-regulated business, so appointment is subject to the usual screening and references. We're unable to offer visa sponsorship, so you'll need existing right to work in the UK.

Ideal start date - Sept/Oct 2026

To apply, send a CV and a short note about why this one to hello@purposefp.co.uk. If you're not sure you tick enough boxes, apply anyway. I'd rather read the note.

We'll aim to come back to everyone we shortlist within one week. If you haven't heard from us by then, assume you've not been successful this time - but thank you for taking the time to apply.
