Job Advert Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us as a Technical Unit Support Officer in the Criminal Investigation Department.

About the role

As part of a small team, you will deliver specialist support and technical assistance within covert and overt surveillance operations throughout the Dyfed Powys Policing area.

Must have a flexible approach to work as there will be a requirement to work unsocial hours with short notice duty changes dependent on operational need and form part of the on-call and weekend working rota to protect the public and property in supporting operational objectives and associated work demands.

Must be qualified to min. of HND / HNC / BTEC standard or equivalent in one or more of the following ESSENTIAL areas: Electronic Engineering, Computing / Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Video Engineering, Radio Frequency Engineering, Audio Engineering or possess equivalent work experience bringing the role holder to a comparable level.

Must be skilled in using specialised software and hardware related to own area of work to include practical knowledge and experience of TCP / IP, LAN, WAN networking and internet security technology and have previous knowledge/experience in at least three of the following subjects:

Electronics.

IP networking

CCTV and video transmission.

Audio principles.

RF principles.

IT software and hardware

Telecoms

Must hold a full manual driving license (Category B licence) and able to travel within the force area as required by the role.

What you will be doing?

The successful candidate will provide innovative technical support services to a wide variety of customers, capturing intelligence to progress an investigation or evidence to secure a conviction utilising of a wide range of technical assets. These will include imaging, audio, various electronic devices and IP networks in support of the proactive policing efforts within Dyfed Powys Police.

Complete site surveys, feasibility assessments, installation, maintenance and extraction of technical equipment according to tasking requirements and legal frameworks.

Carry out the installation, routine maintenance, repair, manufacture and modification of equipment including the construction of "hides" to camouflage and protect equipment, working under pressure in hostile environments, including working at height, confined spaces, darkness and inclement weather.

Recover Digital CCTV from 3rd party systems throughout the force area, in compliance with the Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Practice and NPCC Digital Imaging and Multimedia Procedure.
