Summary
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To work independently across a multi-disciplinary team demonstrating expert nursing skills and knowledge of Bladder and Bowel care. To receive, triage and process complex referrals from a variety of sources To provide Bladder and Bowel assessment, treatment, management, support and advice to patients and other professionals across the Fylde Coast. To prescribe/deprescribe within scope of practice and competency. To use and interpret results of portable ultrasound bladder scanner. To undertake pelvic floor muscle assessments and internal /external physical examinations for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. To be competent in male and female catheterisation procedures. To undertake nurse-led community Bladder and Bowel clinics, and supported home visits Oversee product provision and Bladder and Bowel assessments submitted by other health professionals to the department. Maintain clinical responsibility for clients receiving Bladder and Bowel care. Refer patients/clients to appropriate professionals as required providing timely and accurate information when referring them. Liaise with other Nursing and Social Care Professionals, General Practitioners and Consultants, as required, when identifying the optimum course of action for Bladder and Bowel care. Act as a Nurse Advisor, supporting other professionals in clinical practice. To assist in the planning and provision of skilled Bladder and Bowel care education and training across the Fylde Coast Health and Social Care economy. To assist in the provision of an annual schedule of training events for dissemination across the locality. To provide additional training and education events as discipline specific training needs arise. To interface with public health promotion agencies to promote health in Bladder and Bowel. To provide ad hoc education to the public and to professionals promoting the Bladder and Bowel service and best standards of practice. To canvass opinion and review training needs regularly and deliver education to meet identified needs. To evaluate all training and education events ensuring an audit trail of training outcomes is maintained. To interface with other education and training providers locally, regionally, and nationally to ensure that education needs are met and best practice in teaching and training is achieved. Keep updated with current trends and new developments in clinical practice and to disseminate best practice. As opportunity arises take an active advisory role in the development of Integrated Bladder and Bowel Services across the ICS in collaboration with multi=professional colleagues to support quality improvements and development of care pathways for patients with bladder and bowel care needs. Organize and chair meetings on a regular basis for operational and service development purposes.
