Specialist Manufacturing Environment
A leading specialist joinery manufacturer in the Canterbury area is seeking a Joinery Design Manager to oversee the full design process across bespoke commercial and residential projects. This role suits someone with strong technical joinery knowledge, advanced CAD capability and confidence managing design information from concept through to production.
The Design Manager will attend design meetings, carry out site surveys, produce detailed production drawings, and ensure all design work meets sustainability standards and building regulation requirements. The position involves close coordination with estimating, commercial, production and project management teams to ensure drawings are accurate, compliant and released on time for manufacture.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical design input during tender and pre construction stages.
• Attend design meetings and conduct site surveys to confirm project requirements.
• Ensure compliance with sustainability frameworks (BREEAM, LEED, SKA).
• Identify design or programme risks early and escalate to the Project Manager.
• Record and communicate design changes to commercial teams promptly.
• Maintain internal design trackers and support documentation for client approvals and O&M manuals.
• Produce accurate production drawings for bespoke joinery using AutoCAD and associated systems.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely release of drawings for manufacturing.
Skills & Experience
• Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Proactive, organised and comfortable working to deadlines.
• Advanced AutoCAD 2D experience (minimum).
• Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office).
• Experience within a manufacturing joinery environment is essential.
• Knowledge of SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor beneficial.
• Relevant technical joinery qualification required.
