Summary

SEN Learning Support Assistant - September Start

Full Time • Long Term • Term Time Only Tower Hamlets £100-£110 per day DOE

A welcoming, community‑centred primary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a proactive Learning Mentor to join their pastoral team from September.

About the Role

As a Learning Mentor, you'll help pupils overcome barriers to learning - academic, emotional, behavioural or social. You'll work closely with teachers, pastoral leads and the SEN team to deliver targeted support that helps pupils feel regulated, confident and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver 1:1 and small‑group mentoring sessions

Support pupils with emotional regulation, resilience and positive learning habits

Help pupils develop social skills and improve engagement in lessons

Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and SEN professionals

Monitor progress and maintain clear intervention records

Promote positive behaviour and act as a calm, reliable role model

Encourage attendance, punctuality and readiness to learn

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, parents and staff

Ask Yourself…

Do you have a degree in Psychology, Criminology, Social Sciences, Education Studies, Arts or a related field?

Have you supported children or young people before - in schools, youth work, mentoring or tutoring?

Are you calm under pressure and able to de‑escalate situations with empathy?

Can you build rapport quickly and communicate clearly with pupils and adults?

Are you confident supporting pupils with additional or complex needs?

Do you understand safeguarding and professional boundaries?

Do you have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or are you willing to obtain one?
