Summary
The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical leadership and strategic oversight for psychological services within the Pain Management Service at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. The post holder will lead the development and delivery of psychologically informed pain management pathways for adults experiencing highly complex chronic pain presentations, often alongside significant psychological distress, trauma histories, functional impairment and co-morbid mental and physical health conditions. Working autonomously as an advanced clinical practitioner, the post holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, motivational interviewing and trauma-informed models of care. The role will include specialist assessment and formulation regarding suitability for invasive pain procedures including spinal cord stimulation and other advanced interventions, contributing expert psychological recommendations to multidisciplinary decision-making processes. The successful candidate will provide clinical and professional leadership within multidisciplinary Pain Management Programmes, supporting psychologically informed models of care across the wider Pain Service. They will work collaboratively with Pain Consultants, physiotherapists, specialist nurses, Clinical Health Psychology Services and external agencies to ensure high quality, integrated and patient-centred care. The post holder will manage and prioritise a highly specialist caseload, undertaking complex risk assessments and communicating highly sensitive information to patients, carers and professionals in emotionally challenging situations.
