Summary

The Water Safety Manager is the Trust's Responsible Person (Water) and operational lead for Water Safety Management across the retained estate at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Stamford & Rutland Hospital and retained Peterborough sites (excluding PFI). The post holder is responsible for ensuring statutory compliance with HTMs, ACOP L8, HSG274, HSE guidance, PAM, CQC standards and Trust policies relating to water safety.

The role leads the implementation and continual development of the Trust Water Safety Plan, manages risks associated with Legionella, Pseudomonas and other waterborne pathogens, and ensures water sampling, flushing, inspections, planned maintenance and remedial works are completed in accordance with statutory requirements.

The post holder also leads the governance of Confined Space Management and Estates COSHH compliance, ensuring robust risk assessments, safe systems of work and statutory records are maintained.

Working closely with the Authorising Engineer (Water), Designated Person, Infection Prevention and Control, Estates teams and external contractors, the post holder monitors compliance, manages specialist contracts, produces assurance reports and provides expert advice to Trust governance groups. The role supports continuous improvement, maintains compliance records and performance data, and contributes to the delivery of safe, compliant and resilient Estates services across the Trust.

The Water Safety Manager is responsible for the operational delivery of the Trust’s Water Safety Management Programme across the retained estate at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Stamford & Rutland Hospital and retained Peterborough sites (excluding PFI-managed sites). As the Trust’s Responsible Person, the post holder ensures compliance with relevant legislation, and Trust policies.

The role leads the implementation and review of the Trust Water Safety Plan, managing risks associated with Legionella, Pseudomonas and other waterborne pathogens through effective monitoring, sampling, temperature control, flushing regimes, risk assessments and remedial works.

The post holder monitors statutory compliance, planned maintenance, inspections and corrective actions using Trust compliance systems, producing assurance reports, performance data and recommendations for senior managers and governance groups.

The role also provides operational leadership for Confined Space Management and Estates COSHH compliance, ensuring suitable risk assessments, safe systems of work and statutory controls are maintained.

The post holder manages specialist contractors, provides technical advice to Estates teams and stakeholders, supports Authorising Engineer audits, maintains compliance records and contributes to statutory reporting requirements including ERIC and PAM. Participation in the Estates and Facilities on-call rota is required, providing support during emergency incidents and operational issues.
