A relevant subject qualification (e.g. degree or equivalent).

A recognised teaching qualification.

Level 2 English and Maths (e.g. GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent).

Subject Specific Details

Newcastle College's Aviation Academy is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and appropriately qualified individual to take on the role of Maths and Physics Lecturer.

The primary responsibilities of this role include delivering and assessing high-quality learning in mathematics and physics to students studying on Higher Education Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programmes. The successful candidate will enable learners to develop the mathematical and scientific knowledge that underpins aircraft systems, maintenance engineering, and professional engineering practice.

The role will involve teaching a range of engineering mathematics and physics topics, including mechanics, forces and motion, electricity, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and applied problem solving. Teaching should place a strong emphasis on real-world aviation applications, allowing students to understand how mathematical and physical principles are applied within aircraft maintenance, inspection, fault diagnosis, and engineering design.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging learning sessions, assessing student progress, providing high-quality academic support, and contributing to the continuous improvement of Higher Education provision. They will work closely with the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering team to ensure mathematics and physics are embedded throughout the curriculum and aligned with industry requirements.

This post requires a strong background in mathematics, physics, engineering, or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will have experience of teaching or applying mathematical and physical principles within engineering or technical environments and be able to demonstrate the ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible and engaging manner.

Experience of supporting students studying engineering at Higher Education level is desirable, alongside an understanding of the mathematical and scientific knowledge that underpins aircraft maintenance engineering programmes and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part-66 syllabus. The successful candidate should be able to contextualise mathematical and physical theory through practical aviation examples, preparing students for careers within the aerospace and aviation engineering sectors.
