Summary

As a General Practitioner, you will play a vital role in delivering high quality care to our patients in Hampshire and Isle of Wight. You will work independently and as part of a small team, providing expert remote triage and face-to-face consultations, ensuring safe and informed clinical decisions with compassion and respect. The Special Allocations Scheme provides primary care services to patients who have been removed from their mainstream surgery due to challenging behaviour. This is an opportunity to support patients who may have complex needs and traumatic backgrounds, requiring appropriate care, support and rehabilitation. As part of the role, a proportion of hours will also be allocated to support the Enhanced Access Service and Winchester Urgent Care Clinic. The Enhanced Access Service provides additional healthcare appointments for practices within the Primary Care Network. The post holder will work as part of the Enhanced Access Service team, based across Blossom Health, Havant, and Oaks Healthcare Centre, Waterlooville. The post holder will provide clinical leadership for the delivery of a safe, efficient, and reliable clinical service. They will work closely with the Service Manager and Operational Manager, developing relationships with GP colleagues, secondary care and the wider healthcare community. The post holder will ensure patients receive appropriate care in the right setting, adhering to health policies and standard operating procedures and contributing to their refinement where appropriate. Within the planned primary care clinic, the postholder will undertake clinical assessments and reviews, examinations, appropriate investigations (e.g., x-rays, scans, blood tests), and agree diagnosis and management plan. Where required, onward referrals to specialist services will be made, ensuring referrals are appropriate and supported by relevant clinical information. The services are supported by a multidisciplinary team including GPs, Healthcare assistants and non-clinical staff. Winchester Urgent Care Clinic is designed to alleviate pressure on the emergency department at Royal Hampshire County Hospital by providing bookable appointments to the emergency department to the IUC CAS Service. The post holder provide clinical leadership and work alongside the service manager and operational manager to ensure a safe and effective service is delivered. Leadership The GP Lead will provide strong clinical and operational leadership to the clinical team, fostering a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement. The role requires the ability to motivate and support multidisciplinary staff, lead by example in delivering high standards of patient care, and drive service development initiatives aligned with organisational goals. The GP Lead will play a key role in decision-making, mentoring clinicians, managing change effectively, and promoting a positive working environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and excellence in patient outcomes. The GP Lead will represent the services at relevant Integrated Care Board meetings, contributing to strategic discussions, service development, and collaborative working across the wider healthcare system. The role involves building effective relationships with key stakeholders, communicating service priorities and challenges, and supporting the implementation of local and national healthcare initiatives to improve patient care and service delivery. Investigations & Incidences The GP Lead will demonstrate effective leadership in managing clinical complaints and significant incidents, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly, professionally, and in line with organisational policies and governance standards. The role involves leading investigations, identifying learning opportunities, implementing improvement plans, and promoting a culture of openness, accountability, and patient safety. The GP Lead will support staff through incident reviews, encourage reflective practice, and work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to reduce risk, improve clinical quality, and maintain high standards of care delivery. Patient Care Provide first-contact care for patients with undifferentiated physical and psychological health problems, using their skills in history-taking, physical examination, and clinical decision-making to establish diagnoses and management plans. This includes provision of care for emergency conditions (and appropriate management) and ensuring chronic health needs are met. Continuity of Care Ensuring continuity of care by maintaining ongoing relationships with patients, managing chronic conditions, and coordinating care with other healthcare providers. Preventive Care Provide preventive care, including health education, vaccinations, and screening programs to prevent illness and promote health. Best practice Ensuring appropriate prescribing individualised to the patient within the scope of primary care. Working in line with current up to date guidelines. Requesting appropriate investigations and following up on results as they are received. Holistic Approach Take a holistic approach to patient care, considering physical, psychological, and social factors when diagnosing and treating patients. Cultural Competence Understanding and respecting cultural differences in healthcare beliefs and practices is important for providing patient-centred care. Referral and Coordination Recognising when to refer patients to specialists and coordinate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care. Patient Advocacy Act as advocates for patients, ensuring they receive appropriate care and support within the healthcare system. Supporting with allied professionals involved including MDTs and Best Interest meetings Record Keeping Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients, keeping records confidential, and ensuring adherence to GDPR Professional Development Engage in continuing professional development to keep up-to date with medical advancements and maintain their competence. Clinical Governance Participate in clinical governance activities, such as audits, reporting and quality improvement initiatives, to enhance patient care quality. The GP Lead will provide leadership in the development, implementation, and review of local operating procedures and standard operating procedures to ensure safe, effective, and consistent clinical practice across the service. The role includes ensuring all procedures remain compliant with current regulations, clinical guidelines, and organisational standards, while supporting staff understanding and adherence through clear communication, training, and ongoing governance oversight. Practice Management Support clinical and non clinical staff and facilitate support with administration of the practice and attending practice meeting. On occasion working with wide teams within the organisation
