About Taliesin:

At Taliesin Residential Home, we are dedicated to providing high-quality care and support for older people. Since opening in 1990, we have focused on creating a comfortable, homely environment where residents are treated with dignity, respect and kindness.

As a small residential home with just 18 residents, we are able to provide truly person-centred care and build meaningful relationships with the people who live here. We believe every member of our team plays an important part in enhancing our residents' wellbeing and quality of life.

Taliesin is conveniently located in the heart of Tonypandy, close to the high street, river and train station, making it easily accessible for staff and visitors. The home also benefits from a lovely garden and welcoming communal areas that residents enjoy as part of their home.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and creative Activities Co-ordinator to join our friendly team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys spending time with older people and is passionate about making every day meaningful. You'll be responsible for planning and delivering a varied programme of engaging activities that promote wellbeing, independence, confidence and enjoyment, helping our residents continue to enjoy life, celebrate treasured memories and create new ones.

Every day is different, so we're looking for someone with imagination, energy, patience and a genuine interest in people. You'll have the opportunity to develop your own ideas, organise events and help make Taliesin a vibrant and enjoyable place to live.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

Has a warm, friendly and positive personality.

Enjoys building relationships with older people and listening to their life stories.

Is creative, enthusiastic and enjoys planning activities and events.

Can motivate and encourage others to participate.

Is organised and able to use their own initiative.

Is a confident communicator who enjoys working as part of a team.

Has basic IT skills to prepare activity programmes and maintain simple records.

Is reliable, compassionate and committed to providing outstanding person-centred care.

Previous experience in activities or health and social care is welcome but not essential. Full training will be provided, and we welcome applications from people with backgrounds in hospitality, childcare, education, customer service, community work or other roles where engaging with people has been central.

A full UK driving licence would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over. Employment is subject to satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS check.

As part of the interview process, shortlisted candidates will be asked to prepare and deliver a short activity, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your creativity, enthusiasm and ability to engage others.

Your Responsibilities

As Activities Co-ordinator, you will:

Plan, organise and deliver a varied weekly programme of meaningful activities.

Get to know each resident, understanding their interests, hobbies, abilities and life experiences to help create personalised activities.

Support residents' physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual wellbeing through engaging activities.

Organise a mixture of group activities and individual one-to-one sessions.

Arrange outings and welcome entertainers, volunteers and community groups into the home.

Produce and display a weekly activities programme.

Maintain residents' activity care plans and contribute to accurate record keeping.

Work closely with residents, relatives and the wider care team to ensure activities remain enjoyable, inclusive and person-centred.

Encourage residents to maintain existing interests while introducing new experiences and opportunities.

Activities may include:

Arts and crafts

Baking and cooking

Gardening

Music and singing

Gentle exercise and games

Reminiscence sessions

Cinema afternoons

Shopping trips and local outings

Pet therapy visits

Seasonal celebrations

Community events

One-to-one activities for residents who prefer quieter engagement

Whilst your primary responsibility will be coordinating activities, there may occasionally be times when you'll be asked to support residents with aspects of daily living, such as companionship, mealtime assistance or personal care. Full training and support will be provided where required.

Why Join Taliesin?

At Taliesin, we believe:

Every one of us makes a difference.

Residents are at the heart of everything we do.

Together we make things better.

In return, we offer:

A welcoming, friendly and supportive working environment.

An open-door management approach.

Comprehensive induction and ongoing training.

Regular supervisions and opportunities for professional development.

Access to the Blue Light Card discount scheme.

The opportunity to undertake additional care shifts, subject to appropriate training, experience and the needs of the service.

If you're looking for a role where your creativity, compassion and enthusiasm will be valued, and where you can make a real difference to the lives of older people, we'd love to hear from you.
