About the Role

A welcoming and well-maintained school in Rochdale is seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join their team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the school site is safe, secure, clean, and well-presented, helping to provide a positive learning environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Working closely with the School Business Manager and senior leadership team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, security, and general upkeep of the school premises, ensuring health and safety standards are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities

- Opening and locking the school premises each day, ensuring site security.

- Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks.

- Conducting regular health and safety checks and reporting any hazards or defects.

- Ensuring the school grounds, classrooms, and communal areas are safe, clean, and well-maintained.

- Managing contractors and overseeing maintenance visits where required.

- Carrying out routine inspections of heating, lighting, plumbing, and other building systems.

- Assisting with setting up rooms and equipment for school events, meetings, and activities.

- Managing deliveries and moving furniture or equipment as required.

- Supporting the school in maintaining compliance with health and safety legislation.

- Responding promptly to maintenance issues and emergency situations.

The Successful Applicant Will

- Have previous experience in a caretaker, site maintenance, facilities, estates, or building maintenance role.

- Have good practical DIY and maintenance skills.

- Have a sound understanding of health and safety procedures.

- Be reliable, organised, and able to work independently using their own initiative.

- Have excellent problem-solving skills and a flexible approach to work.

- Be able to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, pupils, and visitors.

- Have the right to work in the UK and be available to work the required hours.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

- Previous experience working within a school or educational setting.

- Health and Safety qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent).

- First Aid qualification.

- Manual Handling training.

- Experience carrying out compliance checks, including fire safety and legionella monitoring.
