Summary

Location: Elsham Wold

Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00am - 2:00pm

Role Purpose

To roast coffee beans to defined quality standards, ensuring consistent roast colour, safe operations, accurate records, and on-time delivery in line with the production schedule.

Main Responsibilities

Quality & Consistency

  • Maintain quality requirements for roasted beans, ensuring coffee is roasted within the specified roast colour tolerance to meet customer expectations.
  • Follow specific roasting instructions precisely to maintain consistency and meet order deadlines.
  • Clean the roaster/cooler thoroughly before processing Organic and Decaffeinated coffees to ensure segregation and prevent cross-contamination.

Equipment Operation & Calibration

  • Calibrate the Colour Meter II daily at the start and mid-shift, recording results accurately to ensure roast colour precision.
  • Check the cooling tray regularly and keep it free of blockages to maintain optimal roasting conditions.
  • Empty the chaff collector regularly to prevent build-up and ensure proper ventilation.
  • Keep the roaster and surrounding area clean and tidy at all times.

Production Planning & Coordination

  • Liaise with the Production Scheduler to agree the roasting plan, prioritise orders, and optimise production efficiency.

Documentation & Systems

  • Complete batch sheets as required, ensuring all roasted batches are clearly identified with accurate details for traceability and quality control.
  • Complete batch roaster records accurately and update the Visma Planning/Production Reporting system to maintain accurate production and inventory data.

Reporting & Continuous Control

  • Alert the Production Manager to any irregularities during roasting and record observations and deviations from standard processes.
  • Report any machinery, equipment, or product issues promptly to a manager to support timely resolution and minimise production disruption.

Hygiene, Safety & Other Duties

  • Record hygiene duties on the monthly sheet and maintain excellent personal hygiene standards.
  • Strictly adhere to all Health & Safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Carry out any other related duties as requested by a manager to support overall team performance.
