This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Deputy Data Protection Officer to join our Information Governance team.

The role:

To support the Information Governance Manager (Data Protection Officer) in developing and upholding a robust information access regime and local land charge’s function, serving as a champion of the council’s ethos of openness, transparency and accountability. To support the Data Protection Officer in developing a legally compliant data protection framework and overseeing the organisation and its partners’ overall compliance with data protection law, identifying deficiencies in procedures and making recommendations to ensure better compliance. To assist the Data Protection Officer in the formulation and delivery of a bespoke data protection legal service to the organisation’s schools and academies.

Your role will involve:

To be responsible for promoting high standards of information governance compliance and related disciplines within the DPO Team, records management, retention & disposal, data protection requests and subject access requests.

To give due regard for individuals’ rights to privacy and expectations of confidentiality, along with the overarching council objectives of openness, transparency and accountability.

To manage the council’s information access regimes and the processing of requests for information by monitoring and responding to information request progress to ensure that statutory deadlines are met. Ensure timely escalation of concerns if request responses are likely to miss deadlines.

To provide high quality and robust Freedom of Information and subject access request advice and legal services to the schools and academies using the data protection service.

To work alongside the Information Governance Manager (Data Protection Officer) to develop and drive forward the Council’s Information Governance agenda; to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and good practice and to protect information held by the Council.

To liaise and work with senior management across the Council to ensure IG standards are complied with, regularly updated and reflect good practice. To advise services on compliance with responses to requests for information to ensure the Council meets it statutory responsibilities.

To provide advice to elected members and colleagues at all levels regarding their obligations to respond to information requests within target timescales and in accordance with prevailing legislation.

To keep abreast of developments affecting the Information Governance service to ensure that the provision of the service complies with current legislation and best practice.

To manage the initial review process for Data protection Impact Assessments and Privacy Notices.

To manage the initial review on working abroad requests.

To deliver training to internal colleagues, elected members and external contacts on Information Governance policies and procedures.

To liaise with council departments to respond to subject access requests to complete the necessary redactions.

To deputise for the Data Protection Officer as required.
