Summary

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Specialist School, Birmingham

Looking to build a career in psychology, therapy, or special educational needs? This is an opportunity to gain the kind of practical experience that simply can't be taught in a lecture theatre. A specialist secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex learning needs throughout the school day, helping them to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

*** £85 - £100 per day

*** September 2026 – July 2027

*** Specialist Secondary School – Birmingham

*** Supporting secondary-aged pupils with complex additional needs

The Role

You'll become a key member of the classroom team, supporting pupils both during lessons and through targeted intervention sessions. Every student has individual learning goals, so your role will involve adapting activities, encouraging communication, reinforcing positive behaviours, and helping pupils develop the confidence to engage with learning. You'll work closely with teachers, therapists, and experienced teaching assistants to ensure every child receives consistent, personalised support throughout the school day.

The Candidate

If you're someone who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and seeing young people achieve things they didn't think were possible, this role could be the perfect fit. A degree in Psychology will give you a strong foundation, but equally important are patience, resilience, and the ability to remain positive in a fast-paced environment. This position is particularly well suited to graduates planning a future in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or SEND teaching.

The School

The school provides a specialist education for pupils with a diverse range of complex learning needs and has earned an excellent reputation for the quality of its support. Staff work within a genuinely collaborative environment where every member of the team plays an important role in helping pupils succeed. Purpose-built classrooms, specialist learning spaces, and a wide range of therapeutic resources allow students to learn in a way that meets their individual needs. Graduates joining the school benefit from excellent mentoring, ongoing training, and the opportunity to work alongside experienced SEND professionals every day.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
