Summary
Core Purpose The post holder leads the Trust-wide resuscitation programme by bringing together patient safety, clinical governance, education, quality improvement and operational delivery. They are responsible for ensuring that resuscitation systems are safe, responsive and continuously improving while supporting clinical teams across mental health, community, learning disability and specialist services. Strategic Leadership The role develops and delivers the Trust's resuscitation strategy, translating national guidance into local practice. It provides expert advice to senior leaders, influences policy development, identifies emerging risks and ensures that resuscitation remains embedded within the wider deteriorating patient agenda and organisational quality priorities. Clinical Governance and Patient Safety A significant element of the role is providing assurance that the Trust complies with national standards through: Leading resuscitation governance Supporting PSIRF investigations involving resuscitation or deterioration Monitoring organisational risks Leading audit programmes Identifying learning from incidents Driving quality improvement initiatives Reporting assurance to Trust committees and executive teams. Education and Workforce Development The Trust Resuscitation Manager leads the development of a comprehensive education programme that ensures every member of staff receives the appropriate level of resuscitation training for their role. This includes: Immediate Life Support (ILS) Adult and paediatric resuscitation education Simulation training Competency assessment Development of future instructors Maintaining Resuscitation Council (UK) standards across the organisation. Service Improvement The role acts as a change leader by identifying opportunities to improve systems, introducing innovation and embedding evidence-based practice. This includes reviewing policies, improving emergency response processes, supporting new technologies and strengthening organisational resilience. Operational Management The post holder manages the day-to-day operation of the Resuscitation Team, including: Line management Workforce planning Recruitment and retention Equipment governance Procurement advice Resource management Prioritisation of service demands across the Trust. Collaboration Success depends on building strong partnerships across the organisation, working closely with: Executive nursing leadership Medical staff Clinical governance teams Physical healthcare teams Learning and development Ward leaders Pharmacists Medical devices groups External healthcare partners. Research, Audit and Continuous Improvement The role uses audit, incident data and research to evaluate performance, identify themes and implement improvements. Regular cardiac arrest audits, emergency equipment assurance and simulated emergency exercises provide evidence that systems remain safe and effective while informing future improvements.
