About the Employer:
I am mum to a 33 year old man with four limb Cerebral Palsy who is wheelchair bound so he requires 1:1 support at all times. He is only able to use his right hand but he can drive a powered chair (this has an attendant control). He also often uses a manual wheelchair when going out on public transport which needs to be pushed. My son also has a high level of Autism so he can get overwhelmed by loud noises or sudden changes and this can result in some challenging behaviour. This presents as him becoming upset and shouting or crying. He does not hurt others but will try to nip himself. Experience of de-escalating would be beneficial. His triggers are known and will be discussed with a suitable PA. My son has a learning disability but he can have a good conversation and he has a great sense of humour. If he is anxious however, he will sometimes choose not to speak. My son also has epilepsy but this is well controlled and he has only ever experienced absences. Personal care will be required as he wears incontinence pads for any accidents but does also use a commode at home. Day time cover: would require personal care including hoisting, changing, toileting and showering. He needs full support with dressing and feeding. My son has a normal diet but does require thickened fluids and medication. Medication can be supported by a family member if necessary. Evening cover: to support my son to attend a local disco. We have a wheelchair accessible vehicle that is available for PA's to drive with my permission. I am looking for a kind, caring PA preferrably with experience to give me break in my caring role as I am returning to work.
