About EK Facades
EK Facades Ltd operates as the façade and external envelope division of EK Group, delivering specialist cladding, façade and fire remediation packages across London and the South East. As part of EK Group's integrated structure, which also includes EK Glazing and EK Roofing, we provide a single point of responsibility for complete building envelope solutions.
We work as both specialist subcontractor and Principal Contractor, particularly across fire remediation and recladding schemes where coordination, compliance and programme management are critical. With over 70 years of combined director-level experience behind us, our approach is commercially intelligent, programme-focused and built around risk reduction and accountability. The successful candidate will be employed directly by EK Facades Ltd.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and technically capable Design Manager to join our growing design team. You will play a key role in the design, coordination and delivery of façade and recladding schemes, with a strong focus on fire remediation and regulatory compliance. The role requires proven experience on reclad projects and demonstrable knowledge of Building Safety Regulator (BSR) requirements and Gateway planning submissions. This position is central to ensuring that our façade systems are compliant, buildable, well coordinated and aligned with both programme and commercial objectives.
Reporting Structure
The Design Manager reports directly to the Commercial Director and works alongside our Project Managers and the wider project team on a day-to-day basis. The role involves regular liaison with the Procurement Team, as well as with external consultants, fire engineers and Building Control bodies. Where a scheme calls for it, the Design Manager will also interface with other EK Group divisions, including EK Glazing and EK Roofing.
Key Responsibilities
The core of the role is the production of detailed façade design drawings, covering rainscreen cladding systems, EWI render systems, brick slip systems, Structural Framing Systems (SFS) and remedial recladding details. You will develop construction details in accordance with current regulations and fire compliance requirements, ensuring that façade build-ups meet the necessary performance, structural and fire safety criteria. Design information will need to be coordinated with architects, structural engineers and fire consultants, and you will be responsible for preparing and managing drawing issue registers and the wider design documentation.
A significant proportion of the workload sits within recladding and fire remediation. You will design replacement external wall systems for recladding schemes, review and interpret FRAEW reports and fire strategy documentation, and develop compliant façade remediation details. This includes coordinating insulation, cavity barrier and fire stopping interfaces, as well as supporting intrusive investigation reviews and as-built assessments.
The position also carries direct responsibility for regulatory submissions. You will prepare and coordinate information for Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 submissions, liaise with the Building Safety Regulator and other relevant authorities, and assist in compiling compliance documentation for higher-risk buildings. Design documentation must align with the requirements of the Building Safety Act, and you will support responses to regulatory technical queries as they arise.
Alongside the technical workload, you will attend design team meetings and technical workshops, take part in site visits and technical inspections where required, and provide hands-on technical support to site teams during installation, helping to resolve design-related site queries quickly and practically.
Key Performance Indicators
Performance in the role will be assessed against the accuracy and technical quality of design documentation, compliance with fire and regulatory requirements, and the successful coordination of Gateway submissions. Meeting design programme deadlines and achieving a measurable reduction in design-related site queries and rework are equally important measures of success.
