Summary

Are you a Pharmacist passionate about education? Get ready for the next step in your career.

We are looking for a Specialist Pharmacist to join Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (BFT)  to play a key role across surgical services and pharmacy education. This role will be predominantly based within the heart of Bristol city centre, the BRI.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious pharmacist ready to develop specialist expertise across complex surgical areas while contributing to the training and development of the next generation of pharmacy professionals.

About the role

We are a major tertiary centre for thoracic and hepatobiliary surgery, ophthalmology, and deliver general surgical care in colorectal, trauma, and orthopaedics. As a Specialist Surgical Pharmacist, you will provide high-level therapeutic expertise across a range of surgical specialties.

You will be fully supported to:

• Develop advanced clinical skills across surgical wards and critical care step-down areas

• Take on more complex project work, particularly in ophthalmology and trauma

• Work closely with our Lead Education & Training Pharmacists to deliver high-quality training for undergraduates, foundation pharmacists, and medicines optimisation technicians

This is an exciting time to join our education team. With the introduction of the new GPhC standards and the first cohort of prescribing-qualified post-registration pharmacists, you’ll help shape innovative training approaches in acute care.

What you’ll be doing

• Play a key role in education and training – including mentoring trainee & foundation pharmacists and MDT staff

• Deliver a patient-centred clinical pharmacy service to adult surgical patients

• Participate in daily multidisciplinary ward rounds, providing expert medicines advice

• Prescribe independently within your competency

• Support medicines reconciliation and safe prescribing across the surgical pathway

• Contribute to guideline development, clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement projects

• Get involved in service development, research, medication safety, and quality initiatives

• Provide leadership and support to junior staff, with the chance to deputise for senior pharmacy leaders

Who we’re looking for

We welcome applications from motivated pharmacists who:

• Are GPhC registered

• Have solid post-registration clinical experience

• Can demonstrate development against the RPS Foundation Pharmacy Framework

• Are ready to step into a specialist role and thrive in both clinical and educational environments

• Are enthusiastic, collaborative, and passionate about improving patient care and education

Previous surgical experience is not essential – we will support the right candidate to grow into this specialist position.
