Summary
Elevate your driving into a profession. Hummingbird (Mobility Exchange) is recruiting self-employed WAV drivers for non-emergency patient transport (NEPTS) and specialist SEN school transport. This is dedicated patient transport work — not standard taxi or private hire — for reliable, professional drivers who take genuine pride in caring for vulnerable passengers.
The role suits two kinds of people: experienced ambulance or PTS drivers who want to work for themselves and earn accordingly, and licensed taxi/PHV drivers ready for a change into steadier, more meaningful work. Either way, the standard is the same — reliability, effort and genuine care are essential.
You'll need access to a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) and a valid taxi/PHV licence — or the willingness to obtain them, as Mobility Exchange can support you in meeting the licence and vehicle requirements. All drivers complete our full Hummingbird training programme, covering patient care, moving & handling, first aid, safeguarding and infection control, with ongoing development throughout.
What we offer: £24 per hour (self-employed), flexible working patterns to suit you, full training, and regular, meaningful work in a growing sector — with the independence of self-employment backed by a professional operation.
Days can be long and the work matters: patients and children rely on us being on time, every time. If that's the standard you hold yourself to, we'd like to hear from you.
Work is currently based across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex, so you'll need to live in or be able to travel within these areas.
