The Histopathology department at #TeamMKUH have recently had a business case approved to expand our workforce due to our popular and growing services. As the demand for pathology services increases, we are investing in our workforce, welcoming talented Biomedical Scientists, Assistant Technician Officers, administrator staff and other registered healthcare professionals who bring fresh expertise and innovation to the department.
Cellular Pathology is a busy but friendly department processing more than 23,000 histology specimens and 1200 cytology specimens per year and plays a vital role in the Trust’s diagnostics cancer service.
We are looking for a competent and versatile individual with a positive ‘can do’ attitude who is willing to learn new skills to join our team in the role of laboratory Cancer Navigator.
Interview date: Monday 10th of August
The successful candidate will act as a navigator tracking the specimens of patients on a cancer pathway through the laboratory process, from receipt to report, working collaboratively with the laboratory and admin teams, the consultant Histopathologists and Cancer Services.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a healthcare environment and be familiar with national cancer pathways and targets. In addition to this, the successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and be IT literate. The individual must enjoy working independently and as part of a team.
The post holder will be innovative and participate in service improvement through audit and peer review measures. We firmly believe in holistic care, and we have strong links with the Milton Keynes Patient Partnership group who work alongside us to help improve services.
The onsite cancer centre offers streamlined cancer services with the recent addition of an Oxford University Hospital onsite radiotherapy service. This developing service is underpinned by a forward thinking and supportive management team, Specialty Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Palliative Care Team and Administration Team.

Perform a range of laboratory and administrative tasks working under supervision until training is complete.
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Be motivated to work independently under own initiative looking to identify quality improvement.
Work to improve the patient experience.
Be confident in the use of the laboratory LIMS and ESR and Microsoft packages including word and excel.
Retrieval of slides and reports for meetings, including MDT support when required.
To help administer in the timely processing and packaging of cancer specimens for referral.
Ensure office equipment is maintained and fit for purpose.
