Summary
We are a leading provider of Language Analysis for the Determination of Origin (LADO) services across the UK and wider Europe. We are currently seeking experienced native or near-native Tigrinya linguists to join our panel of freelance forensic language analysts.
LADO is a specialised forensic linguistic process widely used in immigration and asylum proceedings to help determine an individual’s likely country or region of origin. This is achieved through detailed analysis of spoken language, including accent, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and regional dialect features.
In this role, you will contribute to complex and sensitive cases by providing objective, evidence-based linguistic assessments that support legal and governmental decision-making.
Key responsibilities:
Analysing recorded Tigrinya speech samples (e.g. interviews or case recordings)
Identifying dialectal, phonetic and lexical features relevant to origin assessment
Producing clear, structured and well-reasoned LADO reports
Applying forensic linguistic principles in line with professional standards and methodologies
Working to strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy and impartiality
Desirable experience:
Background in linguistics, sociolinguistics, phonetics, or related discipline
Experience in interpreting, translation, language analysis, or forensic linguistics
Familiarity with dialectology or work involving migration/asylum contexts
