The Eastern Pathology Alliance is formed from three Pathology Laboratories based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), the James Paget University Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.

The Laboratory at NNUH provides a large range of Blood Sciences services comprising Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion, Immunology and Toxicology. The service provides test results reports to support the Acute Trust and Primary Care Trusts requirements.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Practitioner Healthcare Scientist to work in Haematology / Transfusion. Full training will be given in all aspects of the role.

An Associate Practitioner Healthcare scientist is required to perform a range of analyses in the NNUH Blood Sciences Laboratory covering Haematology / Transfusion.

This role provides support to the Haematology / Transfusion departments and requires skills and knowledge in order to:

• Be responsible for the preparation of reagents and complex automated analysers for treatment, investigations or procedures as directed by departmental procedures under guidance of an HCPC registered BMS.

• Receive large volumes of samples, check and examine electronic and paper requests, accurately select test profiles according to specimen type, clinical details and collection conditions and transfer requests on to laboratory information system.

• To perform a range of simple tests, assays and operate complex automated instruments, if appropriate, following standard operational procedures and validate according to departmental policy, with minimal guidance.

• Separate and prepare specimens for referral by post to external laboratories.
