Summary

Our client, a leading education provider in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, is seeking a talented and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), with a particular focus on trauma-informed practice.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial part in creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for our students. Your primary focus will be to assist students with their academic and social-emotional development, ensuring they can thrive and reach their full potential. This role is particularly suited to individuals with a deep understanding of trauma-informed approaches, as you will be working closely with students who have experienced various forms of adversity.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include providing one-on-one or small-group support to students, helping them to engage with the curriculum, develop essential life skills, and navigate the challenges they may face. You will collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other members of the support team to develop individualised strategies and interventions that address each student's unique needs.

In addition to your academic support duties, you will also be responsible for monitoring student progress, documenting your observations, and communicating regularly with parents and caregivers. Your ability to build trusting relationships with students and their families will be crucial in this role, as you work to foster a sense of community and belonging within the school.

Our ideal candidate will possess a range of skills and experience, including:

- A deep understanding of trauma-informed practices and their application in an educational setting

- Experience working with students with special educational needs, particularly those who have experienced trauma

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues

- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the students

- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the well-being and academic success of all students

- Relevant qualifications, such as a teaching assistant diploma or equivalent, would be highly desirable
