Summary
Choices College is a supported internship programme that aims to support young adults with learning difficulties, disabilities, or autism to become employment ready.
This very unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to manage and develop the Supported Internship which has been identified as a key priority and can bring significant value to the NHS by providing young people with LDD/ Autism with the training and work experience required for careers in the NHS and its associated sectors.
Please note: Willingness to travel is essential.
The Area Manager will play a key role in delivering the local programme of supported internships to interns with LLDD or Autism aged 16 to 24 years. The manager will be expected to develop and manage the project, whilst ensuring the students learn the skills required for work and ensure positive outcomes for young people on programme. The post will work as part of a team based with an NHS organisation and will manage additional staff working locally on programme.
It is essential the post holder has experience of working on supported internship/ employment programmes and have experience of teaching students with Learning Disabilities in a classroom and work placement setting.
The post holder will have strong presentation and persuasion skills and experience of multi-agency working with Local Authorities and NHS Trusts. In addition, an understanding of disability employment and apprenticeship legislation is crucial alongside knowledge of legislation relating to EHCP’s.

The Role of the Area Manager is as follows:
• To plan, co-ordinate, deliver and monitor the implementation of the supported internship within their area of responsibility.
• Provide and be responsible for bespoke and indivdualised programme of delivery for every intern completing the Supported Internship by assessing their support needs utilising all information available.
• Plan and deliver NCFE employability sessions, including assessing and uploading of intern work for completion of their portfolios to prescribed deadlines.
• Work in partnership with college colleagues to ensure that the intern is achieving their full potential whilst on the supported internship including English and maths.
• Work in partnership to develop and maintain placement opportunities with stakeholders within their area of responsibility
• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders interacting with the college to ensure the successful implementation of the supported internship within their area.
• Ensure the wellbeing of all interns engaging with the internship, supporting and referring to appropriate agencies when needed
• Follow Safeguarding Procedures to ensure the safety of learners when there are concerns.
• Work alongside and deputise for the Regional Lead, carrying out appropriate duties in their absence.
• Manage, support and oversee the work of the Co-ordinator acting as a role model in terms of delivering a culture of high performance, effective time management and flexibility in delivering workloads and priorities.
• Be part of a wider national team for WT&E specifically supporting the widening participation agenda.
• Demonstrate high levels of negotiation and engagement skills to ensure successful implementation of the supported internship for the learners.
• Demonstrate ability to manage behaviours that challenge.
All public facing roles require a proportionate level of English language proficiency for written and verbal communication and the Trust is required to verify results of certain English language competency tests relied upon.When the fluency duty is met by the provision of a sign language interpreter, the interpreter should be registered with the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People (NRCPD).
