Summary

JVG is a 22-bedded ward that supports patients with delayed transfers of care. The team manages complex discharges and plays an essential role in maintaining safe and effective patient flow.

The post holder will lead, manage and support the ward team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. The role carries 24-hour responsibility for the clinical area.

The ward supports patients aged over 65, primarily with acute frailty and related conditions. You will ensure that each patient receives the assessment, care and treatment required to promote health and support safe transition along their care pathway.

Success in this role depends on strong collaborative working. You will work closely with colleagues across multidisciplinary and speciality teams, including Consultants, the Head of Nursing, Matrons, Ward Managers and the Site Management team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to remain professional and calm when managing complex or challenging situations in a busy environment.

You will work in partnership with the Matron to oversee designated areas and ensure the highest standards of care.

This secondment offers a valuable development opportunity for an individual seeking to broaden leadership experience and contribute to sustained improvement on a busy, high-performing ward.

• Provide clear leadership for the ward team and maintain 24-hour responsibility for the clinical area.

• Ensure the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care for patients over 65 with acute frailty and complex discharge needs.

• Support patient flow by progressing discharge plans and resolving delays in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

• Coordinate daily staffing, workload and escalation, ensuring appropriate skill mix is in place.

• Work closely with Consultants, Matrons, Site Management and other clinical teams to ensure joined-up care.

• Lead on staff supervision, performance, wellbeing and professional development.

• Maintain compliance with clinical standards, Trust policies and evidence-based practice.

• Contribute to quality improvement and service development across the ward.

• Collaborate with the Matron, Service Manager and Practice Development Team to ensure high standards of assessment and care.

We are committed to supporting colleagues through organisational change. Priority will be given to staff at risk within North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care Board.
