Introduction:

A family in Pembrokeshire are looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support them with their daughter's care needs. This young person has been diagnosed with severe Epilepsy; as such, the personal assistant would need to have experience in this area. This young person has many varied interests that the PA would support with including outings to Folly Farm & Hanger 5, as well as activities within the home. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the family to manage their daughter's support and meet her care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet these.

The main duties to be included in this role are:

• Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the family and provide 1:1 support with the young person.

• Required to administer rescue medication

• Ensure a structured set of activities is maintained, where required.

• Develop one-on-one interactions with the young person whilst undertaking outings out of doors and activities around her interests.

• Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.

• Assist family in meeting the young person’s personal care tasks as required; this will include nappy changing, feeding etc.

• Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours.

• Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours.

• Utilise the young person’s specialist car seat & wheelchair for outings

• Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.

• Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.
