Introduction:

A Direct Payments recipient in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support them with their care needs. A young man who has Cerebral Palsy requires a caring personal assistant to help him access community activities.

This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently.

The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.

The main duties to be included within this role:

• Each day is different with this young man therefore you will be required to give consistent one-to-one support and adapt to meet all of his personal and emotional needs

• To learn this young man’s routines and ensure that his wishes are followed exactly.

• To promote this young man’s independence and support him to build on independent living skills.

• To support this young man to enjoy life and access activities and explore social opportunities he enjoys. This could include attending gigs (when all the Covid restrictions are lifted), going to the cinema and gym, shopping and general day to day activities.

• To support and encourage this young man to participate and try new, fun and interesting activities to improve his confidence, abilities and satisfaction.

• Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with this young man.

• To support him to access activities of importance.

• Access suitable community groups.

• Develop one-on-one interactions with him whilst undertaking outings out of doors and activities which include physical activities.

• Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.

• Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with him and providing him with social interaction.

• Ensuring his safety at all times during your working hours.

• Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the young man during your working hours.

• Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.

• Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should he need medical assistance.
