Summary

Two new posts have been created at Hampshire Hospitals Urology to help us achieve our goals of outstanding timely care for every patient.

The postholders will be based at RHCH although will be asked to undertake work at BNHH should it be the interests of the wider urology team.

In addition to supporting the acute urology team at RHCH and developing operative skills the post holder will undertake at outpatient clinic and diagnostic sessions weekly. The desire is that competence is achieved in core urological conditions, flexible cystoscopy and la transperineal biopsy.

The post holders will be part of the general surgery and urology on call SHO rota at RHCH – with the addition of these two new posts this rota will run at a frequency of 1 in8. Overnight the on call surgical SHO and FY doctors are supported by non resident senior general surgical and urology teams.

The roles are designed to facilitate the progression of the resident doctors in post towards CREST (Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training) and appointments will be made for an initial contract of one year with the opportunity to stay for a second year. It is important to note that the responsibilities for achieving CREST lie with the employed doctor but the urology department at HHFT is an ideal place to achieve “demonstrated” for each and every professional capability on the form (CREST | Medical Hub). A dedicated clinical supervisor will help guide each of the appointees towards this.

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors.
