About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Laravel Developer to lead the migration of a large, production Yii-based web application to Laravel.

This is not a traditional PHP development role. We are looking for a developer who uses AI coding agents as an integral part of their daily software engineering workflow to increase productivity while maintaining high standards of code quality.

The successful candidate will analyse an existing Yii application, preserve business functionality, modernise the architecture where appropriate, and deliver production-ready Laravel code using AI-assisted development practices.

Main Responsibilities

* Lead the migration of an existing Yii application to Laravel.

* Analyse legacy PHP/Yii code and accurately recreate functionality using modern Laravel architecture.

* Design scalable, maintainable and well-structured software solutions.

* Use AI coding agents as the primary development workflow.

* Produce detailed implementation plans and prompts for AI coding agents.

* Review, validate and refine AI-generated code before deployment.

* Build reusable Laravel services, repositories and business logic.

* Develop and maintain RESTful APIs.

* Optimise application performance and database queries.

* Troubleshoot and resolve software defects.

* Produce technical documentation where appropriate.

* Maintain high standards of software quality, testing and maintainability.

Essential Skills and Experience

Applicants should have:

* At least five years’ commercial experience developing PHP applications.

* Strong commercial experience with Laravel.

* Experience working with Yii Framework (Yii 1 and/or Yii 2).

* Excellent knowledge of PHP 8+, MySQL and RESTful APIs.

* Experience using AI coding agents within professional software development.

* Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

* Excellent understanding of software architecture, design patterns and modern development practices.

* Experience modernising legacy PHP applications while preserving business functionality.

* Ability to work independently and manage complex technical projects.

AI-Assisted Development Experience

This role requires practical experience using AI coding agents as part of everyday software development.

Candidates should have experience with one or more of the following:

* Claude Code

* OpenAI Codex

* Cursor

* Cline

* GitHub Copilot

* Gemini CLI

* Other AI coding agents

You should be able to:

* Create effective implementation plans and prompts.

* Break complex features into manageable development tasks.

* Review and improve AI-generated code.

* Identify and correct inaccurate AI outputs.

* Deliver production-quality software using AI-assisted workflows.

Desirable Skills

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

* Laravel migration projects from Yii

* Redis

* Elasticsearch

* PHPUnit or Pest

* CI/CD pipelines

* Large-scale SaaS, marketplace or enterprise web applications
