Summary

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Approved Electrician to carry out electrical refurbishment, upgrade, maintenance, and installation works within schools and educational establishments. The successful candidate will hold a valid Gold ECS Card, possess an Enhanced DBS Certificate (or be willing to obtain one), and demonstrate a professional approach when working in occupied educational environments.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Installation & Refurbishment

Carry out electrical refurbishment works within schools and colleges.

Install, alter, and upgrade lighting and power installations.

Replace and upgrade distribution boards and consumer units.

Install containment systems including conduit, trunking, tray, and basket where required.

Install and terminate lighting, socket outlets, switches, emergency lighting, and ancillary equipment.

Carry out 1st and 2nd fix electrical installations.

Upgrade existing electrical systems to current standards.

Complete minor electrical alterations and additions.

Maintenance Duties

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM).

Respond to reactive maintenance and electrical repairs.

Diagnose and rectify electrical faults.

Replace defective electrical components and accessories.

Carry out testing following repairs and installations.

Ensure systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.

Testing & Compliance

Carry out inspection, testing, and fault finding where competent.

Ensure all work complies with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.

Complete relevant certification and job documentation.

Identify and report defects or non-compliant installations.

Working Within Educational Environments

Work safely within occupied schools, academies, and colleges.

Maintain a professional appearance and behaviour at all times.

Be aware of safeguarding procedures when working around children and vulnerable people.

Minimise disruption to teaching staff, pupils, and school operations.

Adhere to school security procedures and contractor policies.

Maintain clean, tidy, and safe work areas.
