About the Provision

An Alternative Provision in Plymouth is seeking a resilient, compassionate, and dedicated Learning Mentor for a consistent, long-term placement. This provision supports young people who face significant barriers to traditional education, operating both on-site and out in the Plymouth community to provide a safe, nurturing environment that empowers students to build resilience and unlock their full potential.

The Role

Working 5 days a week, you will act as the vital link between students, their families, and the classroom. This role blends on-site support with community-based learning, helping young people develop personal strategies to manage their emotions, build confidence, and successfully transition back into a structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Re-engagement Support: Work 1:1 with young people to identify barriers to learning and build tailored strategies to help them transition back into the classroom.

  • Community Learning: Facilitate and support educational activities out in the local community, making learning practical, accessible, and engaging.

  • Family Liaison: Build strong, trusting relationships with families and carers to ensure a holistic approach to the child's well-being and education.

  • Behavioural Support: Offer a calm, grounded presence for students experiencing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties.

Requirements (Essential):

  • SEMH Experience: Proven, hands-on experience supporting young people with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is strictly essential.

  • Full UK Driving Licence: Must have a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, as this role requires regular travel for community learning and family visits.

  • Availability: Full availability to commit to 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

  • Key Traits: High empathy, strong professional boundaries, excellent communication skills, and a non-judgemental approach to challenging behaviours.

Why Work Through Randstad?

  • Dedicated consultant support to guide you through compliance and the interview process.

  • Access to competitive daily rates, paid weekly.

  • Consistent, predictable school hours (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) ensuring a great work-life balance.

  • Opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD) and training.
