Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for aexperienced, passionate, and motivated Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the team on Ward 310 at the Royal Derby Hospital.

Ward 310 is a 30 bedded neurology, stroke step‑down, and general medical ward, offering a dynamic and rewarding environment where no two days are the same. You’ll care for patients with a wide range of neurological, stroke, and general medical conditions, giving you the chance to develop strong clinical skills and broaden your knowledge.

We admit patients from the Medical Assessment Unit with neurological and general medical conditions and patients are transferred from the acute stroke ward once they are ready to stepdown to continue their recovery. This creates a fast‑paced and varied caseload, ideal for nurses who enjoy continuous learning and professional growth.

You’ll be joining a friendly, enthusiastic, supportive, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering exceptional, patient‑centred care.

Main duties of the job

To provide safe, effective nursing care, supporting patients through acute illness and rehabilitation, and contributing to a positive ward culture.

• Carry out comprehensive nursing assessments and contribute to individualised care plans.

• Deliver high‑standard clinical care including medication administration, observations, wound care, and monitoring for signs of deterioration.

• Support patients with daily living activities while promoting independence and recovery.

• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, holistic care.

• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues, providing clear information and emotional support.

• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in line with NMC standards and trust policies.

• Participate in admissions and discharge planning, ensuring safe and efficient patient flow.

• Uphold patient safety through adherence to infection prevention, safeguarding, and risk‑management procedures.

• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and service development on the ward.

• Support junior staff, healthcare assistants, and students through supervision and role‑modelling.

• Engage in ongoing professional development, including mandatory training and reflective practice.
