Summary
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Junior Clinical Fellows to join our dynamic team. These posts will be based across the Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital and Royal Preston Hospital sites and are for an initial period of twelve months. Applicants should hold a full driving licence as they will need to commute between sites.
There is a daily ward round at 8am led by the Duty Consultant. This week consists of FY1s, FY2/CT1, JCF, middle grades and registrars. You should attend this ward round during allocated days, supporting the ward round and associated tasks. Initiate diagnostic and management plan and liaise with the Duty consultant. Additional supervision from the consultants and registrars will be provided. You will have the opportunity to attend the regular operating sessions of the Clinical Team to assist with major surgery and be trained in basic surgical skills under the close supervision of the Consultant. You will typically attend a one clinic a week. After a period of supervision, you will be able to assess new and follow up patients under the supervision of a Consultant.
Currently there is a 1:16 oncall system in operation, with prospective cover for annual leave and study leave. You will be involved in the assessment and management of emergency admissions from both the Emergency dept and via GP into the Surgical Assessment Unit.
Duties - Surgery
· Daily ward round at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital or Royal Preston Hospital
· Attendance at out-patient clinics at Preston and Chorley.
· Operating sessions will be determined by the individual’s experience with both supervised in-patient and day case lists in Chorley allowing training in endoscopic, laparoscopic and open pelvic and renal surgery.
. 6 months in Surgical Assessment Unit
· This post will be part of the 1 in 16 on-call general surgery rota at FY2-CT1/JCF grade level covering Preston and Chorley Hospitals.
· Audit and research activities, participation in teaching and training activities for medical and clinical staff is expected.
· Assessment of ward referral at Royal Preston and Chorley Hospitals.
· Providing support to more junior staff eg FY1 and FY2/ Medical Students.
· Weekly programme will typically include 1 clinic, 1 inpatient operative list and 1 flexible cystoscopy/diagnostic list.
Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.
As a teaching hospital, we encourage all our staff to participate in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
We are committed to developing our teaching and academic activities and can facilitate meeting any training needs for these roles. You will be expected to take on the role of educational supervisor for doctors in training attached to the department.
We support the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and are committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
You will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust.
These posts are subject to the National Terms and Conditions of service for Hospital medical and dental staff (England and wales) Sept 2002 and remuneration will be as set out in the NHS Medical and Dental pay circular. This is a Full Time post.
The contract may be supplemented or amended by local collective agreements reached with trade unions recognised by the Trust and the rules and resolutions of the Trust Board
