Summary

Band 8B MDR-TB Practitioner Psychologist (0.2 WTE, Fixed Term – 12 Months)

We are seeking a highly motivated Band 8B Practitioner Psychologist to join our team for a 12-month fixed-term role.

In this position, you will take the lead in scoping the psychosocial needs of patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of psychological support within a specialised clinical setting. Part of the scoping will include designing and implementing a range of interviews with patients, staff and other key stakeholders to identify the best way to provide psychological services in this population.

You will work closely under the supervision of our Consultant Clinical Psychologist, receiving guidance and mentorship while carrying out the scoping. By the end of your contract, you will be responsible for producing comprehensive recommendations that define the psychological professional’s role within the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), including guidance on banding and hours for future positions.

Barts Heart and Thorax Centre (BHC) Psychological Services works with adult patients and their families who live with an acute or chronic cardiac or respiratory condition and those who require a critical care admission (predominantly cardio-thoracic and cancer related). Specifically these patients are under the care of specialist multidisciplinary teams within the Barts Heart and Thorax Centre, including the Adult Congenital Heart Service (GUCH), The Heart Attack Centre (HAC); The Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU); Heart Failure, Electrophysiology, Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions, Difficult Asthma and Cystic Fibrosis.

The post holder will take a lead scoping role within the Respiratory Division to assess the specific psychosocial needs of the multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patient population. This will involve scoping the needs of patients and staff and defining the role of a psychological professional who might work as part of that clinical provision. The primary outcome of the post at the end of the 12 months will be to provide clinical evidence and guidance about how psychological services should be delivered including hours and banding and defining the role of the psychological professional within the wider MDT. This will form part of a wider business case for the rest of the service to be substantiated
