Summary

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic locum consultant in medical oncology (breast) to join our multidisciplinary teams for four sessions (16 hours) per week in a substantive role.

The successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary team consultants across Medical Oncology, clinical fellows, a specialist registrar, nurse clinicians, a pharmacist, clinical nurse specialists, research nurses, project managers and clinical trial administrators.

The role will involve two clinics per week and attendance at the Wednesday MDT. Suitable SPA and admin time is provided.

The duties and responsibilities of the role, which may be adjusted in the light of changing/developing priorities, include:

• Attendance and review of patients in the weekly breast Medical Oncology clinics. This will include new and follow up patients, on treatment.

• Completion of patient administration tasks

• Completion of and maintenance of Good Clinical Practice Certification (regulatory requirement for clinical trial participation, if appropriate).

• Become familiar with ongoing clinical trials, as appropriate (for context when seeing outpatients in clinic).

• Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of Breast Cancer through attendance at conferences, as appropriate.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high‑quality consultant‑led care across 7 days. This includes participation in planned weekend and weekday clinical activity to support safe, timely decision‑making and continuity of care for patients.

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
