About Us:
South Staffordshire Water operates across two regions as Cambridge Water and South Staffs Water, and is a privately-owned
regulated water only company.
South Staffs Water supplies a population of nearly 1.3 million. The area of supply stretches from the edge of Ashbourne in the
North, to Halesowen in the South, and from Burton-on-Trent in the East, to Kinver in the West.
The Role:
As a Network Assistant at South Staffs Water, you will contribute to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our network
across multiple regions. Working both independently and as part of a wider team, you’ll undertake activities such as structured
flushing, water quality monitoring, and asset inspections to support regulatory compliance and operational performance.
This is a hands-on, field-based role where no two days are the same. You’ll play a key part in maintaining water quality,
supporting network performance, and ensuring our assets operate safely and efficiently—helping us deliver clean, great-tasting
water to our customers every day.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out structured flushing of clean water mains within District Metered Areas (DMAs) and safely operate valves and hydrants
* Monitor water quality (e.g. turbidity, chlorine) and report anomalies or potential water quality issues promptly
* Identify and respond to discolouration risks and support network investigations
* Conduct routine asset inspections (valves, air valves, trunk mains)
* Record accurate data in asset management systems
* Support leakage detection and fault identification
* Work in line with Health & Safety, NRSWA, and safe systems of work
* Work independently and collaborate with operational teams
* Provide clear communication to customers and colleagues
* Participate in occasional out-of-hours and emergency work
What You’ll Need:
* Experience in a field-based role (utilities, construction, or similar)
* Understanding of water networks or water quality (desirable)
* Full UK driving licence (essential)
* NRSWA accreditation
* Water Hygiene / EUSR registration
* Basic Health & Safety training
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work safely in public highway environments
* Self-motivated with good communication skills
What You’ll Get:
* Family-Friendly Leave: Enhanced Maternity, Adoption, Paternity & Shared Parental Leave, Fertility Support, and up to 5 paid
Carer’s Days
* Financial & Life Assurance: Company Pension Scheme with salary sacrifice options
* Health & Wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme and 24/7 Virtual GP access for you and your dependents
* Lifestyle & Perks: Cycle to Work Scheme and My Premier Benefits discounts, cashback, and vouchers
* Professional Development: Hands-on training and ongoing career development opportunities
* Inclusion & Belonging: Active People Networks – Disability & Neurodiversity, Unity+, Women’s Network, Parent & Carer Networking
Group and more
* Performance & Recognition: Annual salary review, Reward & Recognition Scheme, and Long Service Awards.
