Site Manager – School Fit-Out Location: Gloucester Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum DOE Employment Type: Permanent The Opportunity We are currently seeking an experienced Site Manager with proven school fit-out experience to join an established construction team delivering projects across a variety of site locations. This is a key site-based role responsible for the day-to-day management of construction and fit-out operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards. Previous experience managing school fit-out projects is essential for this position. Reporting to the Contracts Managers and Construction Director, you will take ownership of site operations while working closely with subcontractors, trades, engineers, architects, surveyors and other project stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Coordination • Plan and coordinate all on-site construction and fit-out activities. • Liaise effectively with Contracts Managers, engineers, architects and surveyors. • Interpret drawings, specifications and construction documentation. • Prepare site logistics plans and ensure resources are allocated efficiently. • Maintain consistent use of Procure throughout all phases of the project. Site Management & Supervision • Manage the day-to-day operations of the construction site. • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, tradespeople and labourers. • Ensure directly employed site operatives complete and submit accurate timesheets. • Monitor progress and proactively address issues that could impact programme or delivery. • Carry out regular site inspections to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained. • Ensure all site operatives complete the required site induction before starting work and that signing-in records are accurately maintained. Health & Safety • Enforce company health and safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment. • Conduct and review risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures. • Ensure all site personnel comply with legal, regulatory and company safety requirements, including PPE standards. • Report and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses. • Respond appropriately to first-aid incidents and ensure all relevant procedures are followed. Resource Management • Ensure materials, equipment and labour are available when required. • Monitor material usage and deliveries to prevent shortages and programme delays. • Maintain effective inventory control and ensure appropriate site security. Communication & Reporting • Provide regular progress updates to Contracts Managers and key stakeholders. • Maintain accurate site records, including daily site diaries, safety documentation and attendance records. • Attend site meetings and contribute effectively to project discussions. Quality Control • Ensure works are completed to a high standard and in accordance with drawings, specifications and project requirements. • Identify, manage and rectify defects or deviations in workmanship and materials. • Maintain a strong focus on quality throughout the project lifecycle. Working as part of our clients Technical Team, you are one of the go-to people for managing large, technical and complex repair work involving commercial, residential and industrial properties. You demonstrate and implement successful strategies to deliver projects from end to end, whilst being part of a technical hub of knowledge to assist other departments when negotiating Third Party Property Damage (TTPD claims). All this whilst ensuring all works are compliant, commercially sound and completed to the highest of standards. Key Responsibilities • Attend sites across the UK to carry out surveys solo or with the accompaniment of engineers, building surveyors, subcontractors or other professionals, to determine cause of loss, and create a repair scheme to reinstate the damaged property to the correct level of indemnity. • Manage the TPPD claim throughout its lifecycle, responsible for progressing within agreed upon SLAs, compiling all relevant documentation to support its journey including but not limited to cashflow forecasts, programmes of work, variations, schedules, quotes, reports, court compliant reports. • Set the standard for health and safety and statutory compliance across works involving local authority liaison, listed building officers, environment agency, highways departments, building control and other entities. • Manage and lead a team of directly employed and subcontracted operatives onsite and remotely, answering site queries, ensuring quality assurance, project delivery, all within agreed timeframes and tolerances. • Manage all internal and external stakeholders within the process, adapting to preferred communication styles and methods, delivering a bespoke service to suit the needs of the individual. • Provide a go-to referral point for all matters relating to the world of construction, staying up to date with current matters affecting the built environment we operate in, apt at procuring new information when needed. • Conducting desk-based file reviews assisting with formal and informal referrals on high value, technically complex buildings damage and unconventional items to provide a written report, guidance for the attending Surveyor, or cost recommendations and where needed, compiling court compliant documents. • Undertaking additional duties on an occasional or ongoing basis as requested by management to support the wider Building Solutions Team, or to support the technical buildings knowledge of the wider business. Conduct regular site inspections, engineering audits, and quality checks to drive zero-defect delivery. Lead engineering shift handovers, progress updates, and technical briefings with site delivery teams. Candidate Requirements: Proven track record of holding Network Rail CRE (Construction) acceptance on civil engineering/infrastructure projects. Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience). Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (MICE/ICE) is desirable. Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety), CSCS Black/Gold Card, and SMSTS. Deep knowledge of heavy civil engineering (e.g., structures, earthworks, drainage, platform extensions, piling, bridges).
