The post is based across St George’s Hospital and Croydon University Hospital, supporting delivery of glaucoma outpatient services across both sites. The post holder will contribute to a combination of: · Face-to-face glaucoma clinics at Croydon & St George’s · Rapid Access & Urgent Care Clinic session at Croydon & St George’s · Virtual glaucoma review clinics · Administrative and SPA activity The Croydon University Hospital sessions include dedicated glaucoma follow-up clinics, working alongside multidisciplinary colleagues including consultants, optometrists and nursing staff. These clinics require a clinician able to work independently, as a significant proportion of patients require clinical decision-making and management planning. One session will be a Rapid-Access clinic involving triaging patients and seeing emergency patients as appropriate. The St George’s sessions include high-volume follow-up glaucoma clinics and virtual review activity, as well as an Urgent Care acute clinic session. The post holder will work closely with the glaucoma multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive outpatient service to a diverse patient population across Southwest London. The role requires the ability to manage patients autonomously within agreed protocols, with appropriate escalation of complex cases. Individuals that are new to care will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies. The post holder will work withinSycamore Ward which is an Elderly Medical Ward and a dementia-friendly ward. The ward has a 24 hour responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to 27 patients. Sycamore Ward prides itself on delivering excellent patient-centred care and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team Barts Health has a diverse and busy service that may require staff to be flexible in their working. The post holder will be required to work within a challenging clinical environment and may undertake shift work which may include nights and weekends. The post holder will be an integral part of a team actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and of the service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the ward manager. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies though training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority. This post attracts individuals who are new to care.
