An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive candidate to join the Cancer Services team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) in the role of a Cancer Pathway Coordinator. The successful applicant will be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) but required to work cross site when necessary. The successful applicant will be patient focused; have excellent communication and organisational skills; and strong IT skills including Excel and the ability to use a variety of hospital IT systems. Previous experience of administrative work including data collection, validation, analysis and reporting is essential however working in a cancer services team and understanding the Cancer Waiting Times rules would be preferable. The successful applicant will require resilience to deal with the fast pace of the role and the emotional and sometimes distressing nature of cancer. • The post holder will also be expected to coordinate Cancer MDT meetings across a range of tumour sites and accurately record essential data for upload to national databases. The ability to type clinical outcomes “live” at the Cancer MDT meetings is essential. • The post holder will coordinate their workload to ensure timely tracking of patients along clinical cancer pathways. This will include recording information received from primary and secondary care and tertiary centres. It will also involve liaising with internal departments and external organisations involved in providing cancer care, requesting information and ensuring timely referrals. All information must be recorded correctly in the trust's cancer management system according to national guidance. • The postholder will be aware of national targets and always seek to ensure care is delivered within these targets, and always be proactively ensuring delays are avoided or escalated. The Department of Gastroenterology provides a service to the county of Shropshire and Mid Wales and currently consists of 13 Consultant Gastroenterologists and 1 Consultant Hepatologist working across both hospital sites. Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week. The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities. For a full-time contract, the job plan will be divided on average per week (pro-rata for a part time post) as: • 7.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care - includes clinical activity, clinically related activity and predictable and unpredictable emergency work. Clinic templates are for 3.5 hours to allow 0.5 hours for additional clinic related admin (phone calls, time to admit from clinic) within the 1 PA allocated • 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) - includes CPD, audit, teaching and research. 1.5 of these will be to support revalidation. The remaining are to be directed at Trust priorities and might include educational supervision, lead roles, and other activities to be reviewed annually as part of the job planning process. SPA time sufficient for quality assurance activities will be provided. Consultants may carry out a maximum of one SPA session off site at a time suited to their individual timetable and in keeping with the requirements of the activities. Direct Clinical Care PA time will be sufficient to deal with the clinical admin generated by inpatient, outpatient and endoscopic activity • Out of Hours Activity - There will be a requirement to take part in an on call rota primarily for GI bleeds with a frequency of approximately 1 in 10. Weekend on call will require on site input on Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as an on call from home to advise on other Gastroenterological cases emergencies at other times. Responsibilities of the post will include providing a full administrative service and assisting in the organisation of the Consultant Histopathologists workload. They will produce medical correspondence, including patient related documents, data entry into laboratory computer system, specialised reports and will deal with enquiries, both by telephone and in person, from parties internal and external to the Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical fellows to join the oncology department. This post is based at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post will provide an opportunity to train in all aspects of Oncology. It is for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The post would be suitable for ST3 level trainees keen to gain extra oncology experience prior to obtaining a National Training Number (NTN). The successful applicants would be attached to an oncology consultant and would work similarly to our NTN’s. The timetable would consist of acute oncology work, clinic attendance, radiotherapy planning and exposure to clinical trials. On call duties would be available on the SPR rota for those with full MRCP qualification. Site specialisation can be discussed with candidates if they have a strong preference or are thinking of this post as a step to an alternative career path e.g. palliative care or respiratory medicine. The Department serves a resident population of 1.1 million and currently sees approximately 3000 new patients each year; providing a comprehensive range of non-surgical Oncology services to the East Midlands. The Department has around 30 Medical Oncology and Clinical Oncology Consultants providing site specialist care in multi-disciplinary teams. There is an active training programme for Junior Staff. The department has trainees as part of the Trent Deanery training rotations. There are currently around 50 Junior Doctor roles comprising Clinical Oncology and Medical Oncology Specialist Trainees, Clinical Fellows and Foundation Doctors. There is an internationally recognised PGDIP Course in Oncology run by the Academic Department. The Department has a very active Clinical Trials programme with a dedicated research team for academic, NCRN and industry lead studies as well as integral working with the NCRN research team. There is a commitment from all staff to research, development and clinical audit within the Department at a multidisciplinary level. Clinical The post holder would be responsible for the assessment and treatment of oncology patients with a range of malignancies. They will undertake the following duties: 1. Assist in the supervision of junior doctors on the ward to support the effective decision making to support high quality care and throughput of patients. 2. Support the effective and timely review of patients in the Acute Admission area of the Division to ensure that patient flows are maintained to the base wards that discharge out of hospital can take place. • Attendance at outpatient clinics assisting with patient follow up and on treatment clinics. Clinics will be held at either Nottingham City Hospital or Kingsmill Hospital Mansfield. He/she will have the opportunity to select site specific clinics if desired. 1. Provide support to Consultants and other members of the MDT in the recruitment of patients to agreed clinical trials. Teaching / Education The post holder would be invited to attend all specialist registrar training and educational meetings within the department. They would be expected to contribute with training junior doctors and students on the ward. In addition we intend to offer funding and access to the Oncology PGCert/PGDip. Clinical Research The post holder will be encouraged to carry out a piece of clinical research and to present it at an appropriate meeting. A supervisor would be allocated to help and support this.
