The Unit provides elective orthopaedic and emergency limb trauma care to the local population and the wider East of England region. We provide both general and specialist orthopaedic and trauma care. Specialist services include a dedicated Ponseti clinic, specialist neuromuscular and spina bifida clinics, limb deformity correction and a DDH clinic. We work closely with colleagues in paediatric neurology, rheumatology and radiology. We also have close links with the adult trauma and orthopaedic team. We actively participate in both national and local research projects. We are active members and the regional Paediatric T+O Operational Delivery Network (OPN) and lead the clubfoot subgroup. Outpatient facilities for Paediatric Orthopaedics are in Clinic 6. Fracture Clinics run from Clinic 1, where the plaster room is located. Some specialist clinics run in the Child Development Centre (CDC). Elective Paediatric Orthopaedic beds are provided on F3 ward. Most emergency admissions go to D2 ward. Children are admitted to PICU, HDU and NICU as clinically indicated. The department currently has 5 consultants, 1 clinical fellow, 3 residents, 2.4 FTE physiotherapists, 3 CNSs and 1 secretary. The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU/HDU) has 13 beds, it is the only PICU for the East of England covering a large geographic area. As a part of the Major Trauma Centre for East of England, PICU also provides support for the paediatric trauma for the region Notably, the development of a dedicated, stand-alone Children’s Hospital on the campus is well underway. A Cambridge Children’s Hospital and Cancer hospital are being built, providing opportunities for collaboration. This is a 12 month post based at University College Hospital, providing an unique training and experience within a tertiary specialist Nutrition centre with a high volume of patients requiring parenteral and enteral nutritional support. Successful candidates will gain exposure to managing complex patients with intestinal failure (i.e short bowel syndrome, complex IBD, radiation enteropathy) working closely with a highly-skilled multi-disciplinary team. Our UCLH Gastroenterology unit is one of the largest in the UK, and the post offer exposure to all aspects of Gastroenterology, covered by the 14 Consultants within the department. Subspecialty areas of expertise include clinical nutrition/intestinal failure, oesophagogastric/laser medicine, inflammatory bowel disease, GI physiology and pancreaticobiliary medicine. There are a number of educational meetings run each week, including a journal club, specialist multidisciplinary meetings, a ‘morning report’, and seminars with invited speakers. We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 6 Radiographer's to permanently join the Cross Sectional Team at WWL Teaching Hospitals. The post is for 37.5 hours per week, part time hours will be considered. Candidates should have a flexible approach to their working hours as this contract will be flexible across 7 day working, including evenings, weekends, nights, stand-by and across multiple sites. WWL offers cross sectional imaging across 3 sites which includes Wrightington, Wigan and our new state of the art Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Leigh Infirmary. Our portfolio includes 5 Siemens CT scanners and 3 Siemens MRI 1.5T wide bore scanners across all sites and a new 3T MRI at the Wrightington site in 2025. You must have proven experience of an extensive range of MRI and/or CT procedures and a demonstrable high level of MRI and/or CT scanning knowledge. It is essential to have recent NHS experience. You should have evidence of ongoing CPD activities incorporating current advances in both CT and MRI. Advert may close early if a high volume of quality applications are received. The successful post holder will- • Perform such duties as will assist in the provision of an effective and efficient diagnostic imaging service, primarily within CT and MRI. • Undertake interchangeable working between the MRI and CT departments following completion of the relevant in-house training programmes, demonstrating a flexible approach to work, in line with the requirements of future service developments and expansion of services. • Participate in the CT night rotation and out of hours CT standby service to cover the CT night service in the event of unplanned sickness. • Work flexible hours to meet the demands of the service across 7 days and multiple sites, this will also include night shift rotation. • Work within the CT/MRI department, providing leadership and training to more junior staff. Duties and Responsibilities • BSc In Diagnostic Radiography or a Diploma of the College of Radiographers (Diagnostic) • Must keep evidence of an up-to-date record of continual professional development and necessary training within a portfolio. • Sound generic Post Graduate experience. • Completion of in-house training programme for CT and/or MRI scanning, including both practical and theoretical aspects of the CT/MRI scanner and related equipment. • Extensive knowledge and understanding of cross-sectional anatomy. • Must be receptive to future role development to allow further improvement and expansion. • Intravenous Injection Certificate is desirable. If not, a willingness to undertake this training is required. • To be competent in the use of accessory equipment such as oxygen and suction machines and appropriate resuscitation equipment. Key results from the job holder • To perform unsupervised radiography and MRI/CT scanning as required. • The post holder will be required to perform a wide range of CT/MRI scanning techniques. • To ensure high standards of image quality for conventional Radiography and CT/MRI. • Exercise judgement, based on knowledge and experience to assess and interpret patient condition and amend technique /protocol from a range of alternatives. • Ability to critically appraise the technical quality and diagnostic value of CT/MRI images and the need for further imaging before submission for reporting. • To deputise for the Band 7 Radiographers and undertake specific leadership responsibilities as designated by them. • To have a flexible approach to work and be willing to adapt to service needs as they arise. • To participate in the standby rota for CT for the provision of unplanned sickness during the night, to enable service continuity by meeting relevant targets. • To be responsible for the correct care of patients attending for diagnostic imaging. • Is responsible for the radiation dose received by patients during their CT examination. • Is responsible for MR Safety of staff, patients and visitors to the MRI Department. • To act responsibly with regard to matters concerning radiation protection for staff and patients. • To seek help from the Radiation Protection Supervisor when required. Responsibility for Finance • Responsible for the safe use of the MRI/CT scanners and related equipment and for the safety of self and other users. • Be responsible for the safe use of a variety of equipment within the radiology department. • Ensure that best value and use of resources is maintained at all times Responsibility for Human Resources • Compliance with Trust Policies and Procedures, including the Code of Conduct. • Ensure compliance with Mandatory training requirements in accordance with Trust Policy • To support the department induction process for new work colleagues. • To supervise junior members of the Trust in the performance of their duties. • Responsible for entering information about radiology examinations into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and correcting/updating records where required. • Ensure accurate records are kept on the RIS System in line with Medicines Management requirements. Work Circumstances & on-call • Works in the CT Department where high dose radiation examinations are carried out. There is an occasional need to be exposed to this hazard. • Working within MRI scanner with associated magnetic field safety requirements • Prolonged use of VDU screens. • Required to perform CT standby duties in times of staff sickness. This will require lone working through the night performing emergency scans. • Daily exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions eg. Bodily fluids, blood, urine, vomit, faeces and infections such as MRSA and CDT. • Maintain knowledge of cross infection control procedures in order to be able to deal safely with hazardous substances and body fluids. This is an exciting time to join us with opportunity to support inpatient and outpatient transformation as part of a blended workforce as we develop our Luminal and Liver services and further establish our inpatient and outpatient pathways. Our Gastroenterology and Liver service is one of the busiest in the UK – we offer a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for all gastroenterological conditions. Our JAG accredited, performance driven and patient centred Endoscopy unit delivers approximately 15,000 procedures per annum and is a spoke centre for the North-West Endoscopy training academy and is the admin hub for Bowel cancer screening within the Lancashire region. This post will provide the successful candidate with excellent experience and training in Gastroenterology. Our thriving Gastroenterology unit has a high reputation for good quality Gastroenterology and Endoscopy training and the experience gained through this post has in the past supported trainees to obtain a National Training Number and pursue a career in Gastroenterology. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals is an NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre and involvement in Gastroenterology related audit, quality improvement projects and research would be fully supported. This post will support the ongoing provision of a timely, quality and safe specialist Gastroenterology and Liver service. The successful candidate will support Inpatient and Outpatient Gastroenterology transformation and Gastroenterology and Endoscopy recovery and restoration. Endoscopy training will be supported during the Luminal and Endoscopy rotations. The post will include a commitment to Gastroenterology on-call enhancing the overall training experience whilst supporting delivery of a 7-day Gastroenterology in-reach service and Gastroenterology Speciality reviews and ward cover on a rotational basis. Gastroenterology and Endoscopy administrative duties within the Department will also be undertaken regularly. The template for Consultant outpatient clinics is based as a minimum on the RCP template. A standard clinic comprises 12 patients and includes a combination of new, fast track and follow-up patients with each patient allocated 15-20 minutes. This template will depending on the experience of the trainee increase by up to 50% when a Gastroenterology Registrar has been allocated to clinic. Endoscopy Training lists comprise 6-8 units and are adjusted to trainee requirements. The department has a well established record in supporting Endoscopy training and all trainers have undertaken train the trainers courses. We have a dedicated Endoscopy training lead and Endoscopy trainee meetings are undertaken monthly to support and optimise the Endoscopy training experience.
