Job Title: Junior Fellow Start Date: ASAP Contract Type: Fixed term Duration: 6-12 months Purpose for Fixed Term: Short term funding Please see below for detailed job description of the role. Are you interested in a career in cancer care? We may have an excellent opportunity for you. Our previous Cancer Care Fellows have presented posters at international conferences, delivered major Quality Improvement and audit projects, and many have successfully progressed into CMT and ST3 training posts. This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum. There may be opportunity to tailor to fit the interests of yourself, including if you’re looking to pursue a career in oncology/haematology or if you have undertaken oncology/haematology training overseas or wish to obtain specific subspecialty experience. These posts are designed to mirror the training programme of deanery appointed resident doctors, and opportunities for education and supervision will be identical, including allocation of an educational supervisor for the duration of the post. As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care. Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted. We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information. The majority of your time will be spent caring for inpatients and patients on the day unit, and you will have opportunities to attend clinics or radiotherapy planning, and teaching sessions. You will be able to take part in the on-call rota at a level appropriate for your clinical experience and training. You will be able to benefit from opportunities to work with colleagues in our cancer sciences department and the new centre for cancer immunotherapy, our stereotactic radiotherapy service, and our bone marrow transplant unit. The Trust is one of the most research active acute trusts in the UK, and a major research centre for the University of Southampton, hosting a Cancer Research UK Centre and an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre. We have a busy and successful department, and we are looking for doctors at “FY3”/CT1/CT2 to help run our service especially our wards and day units. We are offering a unique experience to come and work with us and gain experience in different specialties. We will work with you to design a rotation giving you varied clinical exposure. For an overview of the position, please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification document. This includes a detailed breakdown of the key responsibilities, role expectations, and the qualifications we are looking for. It outlines the essential criteria for the role and is designed to support you in preparing your application by helping you evaluate how your skills, experience, and professional background align with the requirements of the role. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. Grades for Trust appointed fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.
