++NOT FOR ADVERTISING++ Nottingham is the Primary Treatment Centre for the East Midlands (population 4.5 million) and treats 120 new patients with malignant disease a year. The department has 17 designated in-patient beds including a 5 bedded TYA unit, 3 day-care beds and access to beds on the neuro-sciences ward. This is a varied and interesting post in paediatric oncology and haematology. Experience will be provided at Nottingham Children's Hospital (Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust) in general paediatric oncology, paediatric neuro-oncology, paediatric haematology, TYA oncology, neuro-rehabilitation and clinical trials. The successful applicant will rotate through three different clinical areas: oncology and haematology inpatients (including neuro-oncology, leukaemia and non-malignant haematology), day care and outpatients. Trainee supervision includes twice weekly consultant-led ward rounds; solid tumour, neuro-oncology, haematology, psychosocial, neuro-rehabilitation and TYA MDTs; an ‘attending consultant’ system for in-patient care and new patient referrals; and a weekly supervised chemotherapy prescribing session. Induction includes supervision in bone marrow sampling, safe chemotherapy prescribing and handling and accredited training in prescription and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy. Out-patient clinics include general and neuro-oncology, leukaemia, non-malignant haematology, combined neuro-oncology / endocrine and neuro-oncology / ophthalmology and late effects / long term follow up. Depending on experience and training the successful applicant will be expected to run their own outpatient clinics with consultant supervision. Plan theatre lists 4 weeks in advance with line manager and Clinicians. • Liaise with patients/carers to arrange pre-assessment appointments for patients requiring surgery. • Liaise with theatre staff, clinicians, anaesthetists and Service Manager to ensure lists are fully utilised. • Liaise with medical staff regarding waiting lists and theatre list. Assist in organising any special requirements as and when needed. • Undertake a weekly review of the waiting list to ensure patients are treated by clinical priority and wait time. • Collate and circulate the weekly admissions planner for clinical and managerial staff. • Keep comprehensive records of any cancelled and rescheduled theatre sessions. • Produce the cancellations spread sheet on a daily basis. • Collate, input, interpret, analyse, and extract data for audit/presentations – to be used by clinicians/managers as and when requested. • Provide patient information to GP practices, also to liaise with GPs regarding results, special needs and concerns. • Plan and maintain one year in advance theatre sessions, pre-assessment, and operating schedule to achieve wait time targets. The post holders will work at Tier 2 (Registrar/Middle Grade) level within the Neonatal Department, participating in the resident Tier 2 on-call rota and contributing to the delivery of a comprehensive Neonatal Intensive Care Service. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of consultant neonatologists, specialty trainees, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPs), neonatal nurses and allied health professionals, providing high-quality care to newborn infants across the intensive care, high dependency, special care, transitional care and post-natal ward settings. The post is particularly suitable for candidates wishing to develop advanced neonatal intensive care skills and those considering a career in Neonatology, Grid Training, CESR or consultant practice. The post is initially offered for 6 months, with the possibility of extension subject to service requirements and satisfactory performance. Applications are welcomed from both UK and international medical graduates. A full GMC registration with a licence to practise is essential along with experience of working in UK in a level 2/3 unit for at least 6 months. The successful candidates will be expected to commence employment at the earliest. The Neonatal Unit provides a full range of intensive care services for approximately 5,500–5,800 births annually and comprises 8 Intensive Care cots, 8 High Dependency cots and 20 Special Care/Transitional Care cots. The successful candidate will provide registrar-level clinical leadership across the neonatal service, including NICU, HDU, SCBU, Transitional Care and postnatal wards. The post holder will deliver high-quality, family-centred care within a multidisciplinary team. The role requires competence in advanced neonatal procedures, including neonatal resuscitation, endotracheal intubation, surfactant administration, umbilical venous and arterial catheterisation, arterial line placement, therapeutic hypothermia, conventional and high-frequency ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide therapy and non-invasive respiratory support. A full shift rota operates in compliance with Working Time Regulations. The successful candidate will provide Tier 2 cover, attend high-risk deliveries and support emergency admissions and out-of-hours care. The neonatal team includes 7 ST1-3 resident doctors on the Tier 1 rota, 5 ST4-8 resident doctors working in neonatology, 2 community ST4-8 resident doctors contributing to the middle-grade rota, and an established ANNP team supporting both rotas. The post holder will supervise and support junior medical staff and ANNP colleagues, contribute to consultant-led ward rounds, participate in clinical handovers and uphold high standards of clinical care, professionalism and patient safety. Participation in teaching, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance activities is expected to support ongoing service development.
