As a Locum Consultant in Pain Medicine, you will join one of the UK's few dedicated specialist pain centres, based in our purpose-built Pain Management Centre on Cleveland Street. Working alongside a team of experienced consultants and a wide multidisciplinary group of psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses and trainees, you will help patients with complex, persistent and cancer-related pain conditions improve their symptoms and quality of life. You will have close links to neurology, neurosurgery and other specialist teams, within a Trust known internationally for world-class research and education. You will deliver outpatient pain clinics and interventional procedures to a consultant standard, working within a large interdisciplinary team to provide coordinated, evidence-based care for patients with complex pain. Professor Susana Banerjee is Clinical Research Lead for the Gynaecology Unit. The gynaecology research team, led by Professor Banerjee, is world class developing, leading and delivering phase I-III clinical trials several of which have led to changes in clinical practice. Acute Oncology Service (AOS) provision was identified in 2009 as a key recommendation of the National Chemotherapy Advisory Group (NCAG) for improving quality and safety of emergency care for those patients with previously undiagnosed cancer and complications of cancer or treatment. Applicants are invited for a locum full-time (1.0 WTE) consultant musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologist post with an interest in major trauma imaging. The post has arisen due to expansion of the service and reconfiguration of the existing MSK imaging team. The appointment offers an opportunity to strengthen an established team of MSK radiologists, some of whom also support major trauma services. The successful candidate will have completed formal training in MSK and major trauma radiology and will have experience in all aspects of MSK and general cross-sectional imaging. Rapid access and the safe and efficient reporting of inpatient and emergency workload are key priorities, and the post holder will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department, including plain film and CT reporting, which is delivered by a large consultant team across 7 days, and includes a day time duty rota, scheduled but infrequent and flexible sessions at weekends and extended weekdays. The post holder will also be expected to deliver regular evening sessions as part of the job plan. In line with the stature and ambition of the Academic Health Sciences Centre, the successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to training and, if appropriate, research, as well as working with the Divisional and Directorate management team to help manage and improve the service effectively. The successful candidate will have completed formal training in general radiology and will have experience in MSK and major trauma imaging. Approximately 60% of their time will be dedicated to MSK subspecialty work including ultrasound, all aspects of cross-sectional imaging, image guided procedures, MDTs and plain film reporting. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to the general work in the department, includingduty “hot desk” reporting, general CT and plain radiographs. Part of this will take the form of an extended day to regularly provide consultant presencefrom Monday to Friday between 5pm to 8pm. This will involve reporting A&E and inpatient scans to support the radiology registrars and fellows. Supporting Professional Activities: 1 PA per week for CPD, Statutory mandatory training and Governance. Site for each activity to be finalised across the three main sites (CXH, HH and SMH) after appointment of the post. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to undertake sessions at one of the new CDCs.
