The Neurosurgical Unit within theManchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN)at Salford Royal Hospital is one of the largest and busiest neurosurgical centres in the UK, delivering specialist care across the full range of cranial and spinal neurosurgical services. The successful candidate will join the Neuro-Oncology team and work closely with the Consultant Neuro-Oncology Neurosurgeons, providing clinical, operative and multidisciplinary support within a high-volume tertiary referral service. The fellowship offers extensive exposure to the assessment and surgical management of both primary and secondary brain tumours, complex spinal oncology, awake craniotomy, image-guided surgery and interdisciplinary neuro-oncology care. The Fellow will play an integral role within the wider neurosurgical department, working alongside consultants, trainees and specialist practitioners across the service. The Specialist Hip & Knee Unit offers an exceptional fellowship opportunity for surgeons seeking advanced training in orthopaedic procedures. Led by a team of 12 substantive consultants, the fellowship provides comprehensive exposure to complex hip and knee arthroplasty, with unique flexibility for candidates to tailor their experience towards either arthroplasty, hip surgery or knee surgery. The Fellow’s post will provide exposure to all aspects of the management of patients with primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty and complex limb reconstruction. There will be ample opportunity to assist and gain experience with the full range of extremity and pelvic surgical cases. Attendance at arthroplasty MDT meetings is expected. The Fellow will be allocated to one of the sub teams within the unit and have the opportunity to rotate at 6 months. The Fellow will attend fixed outpatient clinics and operating lists. There will be opportunities to sit in clinic with the consultants as a learning experience as well as see patients independently. Likewise, in theatre, there will be opportunities to assist with complex surgical procedures as well as undertake surgery as the lead surgeon. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital was founded in 1907 with the amalgamation of London’s three specialist orthopaedic hospitals into one single centre of excellence. We can therefore trace our history back to 1838 when the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital was founded. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust was formed in 1991 as part of the first wave of NHS Trusts. We are inviting applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Upper GI department. This is a full-time, permanent post, available to commence as soon as possible, but a suitable start date could be arranged with the successful applicant. The post is ideally suited to fully registered doctors seeking to extend their existing experience of Upper GI surgical services, in an experienced and supportive department. The post-holder will be required to work across both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital sites. Previous experience at Registrar Level in General Surgery is essential. Ward Duties • Supervise the clinical and teaching activities of junior trainees. • Assess all new patients and liaise regarding clinical care with the Consultant and other colleagues. • Maintain appropriate clinical progress notes in the case notes. • Keep relatives informed regarding the progress of the patient and obtain Informed Consent for operations/procedures co-ordinating with the Consultant as appropriate. Operating Theatre • Attend the regular operating sessions of the Clinical Team to assist with major surgery and be trained in skills of increasing complexity under the close supervision of the Consultant. • Assist in the operating sessions of other teams from time to time and co-ordinate, assist with/perform emergency operations. Outpatient Clinics The Clinical Fellow must assist with the regular outpatient clinics including the ambulatory emergency general surgical clinic under the guidance and supervision of the Consultant. The clinical fellow is expected to cover hot clinics. On-Call Currently there is a 1:10 full shift system in operation, with prospective cover for annual leave and study leave. Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is a major acute trust in the North West. The unit is a well-recognised centre for advanced training in Breast and Reconstructive Microsurgery, Hand and Complex Limb Trauma reconstruction, Burns acute management and late reconstruction, and Cleft surgery. St Andrews Centre is also a regional tertiary centre for Head and Neck cancer services for the Essex region. The fellow will be involved in the management of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer with loco-regional and free flaps reconstruction. You will be involved in SNLB, regional lymph node dissection (neck, axilla and groin) and parotidectomy for parotid metastasis. The trainees are benefitted by the structured weekly teaching programme supervised by the consultants. You will support the plastic surgical service at the St Andrew's Centre & satellite hospitals as required. You will attend the out-patient departments and the operating theatres as required by the consultants. You will deputise for the consultants in their absence at a level commensurate with his/her experience in plastic surgery. You will undertake at least one regular trauma session in the theatre at St Andrew's each week. You will also be expected to involve in an on-call rota which covers the management of Plastic, Hand and Burn patients admitted as emergencies in the manner normal to Plastic Surgical Units worldwide. You will be involved in the management of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer with loco-regional and free flaps reconstruction. You will be involved in SNLB, regional lymph node dissection (neck, axilla and groin) and parotidectomy for parotid metastasis. You will also get involved in abdominal wall and perineal reconstruction.
