An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Medicine Team at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Previous NHS experience is essential. We are seeking experienced clinicians to join our senior rota at Junior Registrar level who can manage adult and paediatric emergency presentations with a high degree of clinical autonomy. Applicants must have NHS experience and be confident in the assessment and management of critically ill and injured patients. Successful candidates will be expected to undertake middle-grade responsibilities, supervise junior colleagues, and contribute to departmental leadership and patient flow. We are looking for motivated clinicians with a proven track record of delivering high-quality emergency care within the NHS and who demonstrate the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours expected of a senior Emergency Medicine doctor. You will be working in one of Greater Manchester’s busiest hospitals, where over 100,000 patients are assessed in the Emergency Department each year. Our state-of-the-art department includes a Paediatric Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, Resuscitation Area and Same Day Emergency Care Unit providing front-door medical and respiratory assessment. The post offers excellent opportunities to develop specialist interests. Regular simulation sessions, ultrasound training and dedicated consultant-led shop floor teaching are integral parts of the educational programme. Experience working in a Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy outpatient department(s), preferably within the NHS. Experience working as an autonomous practitioner to Assess and Rehabilitate MSK patients with a broad range of treatment options. Ability to screen for red flags, clinically triage patients with MSK conditions; make appropriate onward referrals; communicate well with local and wider MDT. Our team consists of 11 consultants, 24 junior doctors, and over 100 nurses and AHPs in our two Critical Care units. About the units · St Helier ICU: 13 beds, providing full level 3 and 2 care. · Epsom HDU: 6-8 level 2 beds. · Annual admissions: 1400 patients, including 700 emergency medical patients, 350 emergency surgical patients, and 350 patients following complex elective surgery. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce. • On-call • The post has night on-call commitment based on a 1:8 rota, which will be based at St Helier Hospital,coveringICU andHDU.Therewillbe2juniordoctorseverynight.Indaytimetherewill be minimum 4 junior doctors in the unit. The unit is always covered by a consultant intensivist, whois on-sitefrom 8AMto9PMand thenon-call (non-resident).CurrentlyEpsom unitcoveris only day time (8AM to 6PM) by critical care juniors. Night cover at Epsom will be provided by Anaeasthetic team • There is a very close link between critical care unit and anaesthetic department.
