What you’ll do as an Electro Technical Officer (ETO) Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the Electro Technical Officer (ETO) will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and ongoing reliability of the vessel’s electrical and electronic systems. Key responsibilities include: · Maintenance, testing, and support of shipboard safety and emergency systems, ensuring their continued availability and compliance with statutory, Class, and Company requirements. · Providing electrical and technical support for vessel navigation, communication, and associated electronic systems, ensuring reliable operation and ongoing regulatory compliance. · Electrical and technical support for propulsion related, vessel manoeuvring, and Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, including associated power generation, distribution, drive, control, and redundancy systems, where fitted. · Execution of planned maintenance activities in accordance with the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS), ensuring tasks are completed correctly, efficiently, and within required intervals. · Maintaining accurate and timely records to support compliance with Class, Flag State, ISM, ISPS, DP notation, and charterer requirements, ensuring documentation remains audit ready at all times. · Liaison with shoreside technical support and service engineers, coordinating inspections, defect rectification, upgrades, and specialist attendance as required. · Providing electrical support and technical guidance to engineering staff and deck officers, supporting safe, efficient vessel operations and the integrity of DP and other critical systems. Qualifications & Experience Essential: · Valid STCW Electro‑Technical Officer Certificate (III/6) · Recognised seagoing ETO experience · Strong knowledge of marine electrical, electronic, and automation systems · Experience with fault diagnosis and system recovery under operational conditions · Familiarity with PMS systems and audit requirements Desirable: · DP vessel / offshore experience · Knowledge of power management systems and redundancy concepts · High‑voltage training (where applicable) · GMDSS maintenance endorsement Personal Attributes · Highly safety‑focused with a methodical approach to fault‑finding · Able to work independently as the vessel’s electrical specialist · Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with the Chief Engineer and bridge team · Calm and effective under pressure in operational environments · Well organised with good documentation standards Vetting and checks: This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. The DCO Training Oversight Team (DTOT) sits within the Vetting and Certification Assurance Team in Immigration Detention. The team is responsible for overseeing and standardising training delivered to Detainee Custody Officers (DCOs) working across Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs). DTOT ensures that DCOs receive the knowledge, skills and capabilities required to perform their role effectively and safely. The DCO Training Oversight Team (DTOT) is a geographically dispersed team comprising EO Training Assurance Officers and a HEO Training Assurance Manager. The team conducts regular assurance visits across the immigration removal estate and other training locations to monitor compliance with certification requirements and promote consistency in training delivery. The team provides quality assurance of training delivered by contracted service providers, driving continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with certification and contractual requirements. Through robust oversight and stakeholder engagement, DTOT helps maintain high training standards that support the safeguarding and welfare of individuals within IRCs. The successful candidate will play a key role in reviewing and assessing training materials to ensure they meet contractual and Detention Services Order (DSO) requirements. Working both collaboratively as part of the team and independently during assurance visits, they will contribute to maintaining high standards of training across the detention estate. A significant aspect of the role involves observing training delivered by Contracted Service Providers (CSPs), ensuring that only approved training materials are used and that delivery remains compliant with contractual and DSO requirements. The post holder will provide detailed feedback to training teams, identify areas for improvement, and produce comprehensive reports outlining their observations and recommendations. The successful candidate will build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels. They will represent DTOT at stakeholder meetings and act as a key point of contact for assigned Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) training teams, providing advice, guidance and assurance to support the delivery of high-quality training programmes.
